Trump set to sign EO's dismantling some Obama's EPA regs which really hurt coal

This ironically is one area where Obama promised something and pretty much Damn near accomplished what he promised. He said he would put coal miners out of work, and coal producers out of business.

He just about shut down an entire energy sector in this country.

Unreal.

Obama did not shut down coal. Can we at least live in the real world. The Real world is no longer using coal as it did in the past and as long as WV ignores this fact we will continue to have economic problems.

Sorry my friend. He (Obama) did say that was his goal, and he darn near accomplished it. Watch it make a huge comeback from this this EO Trump just signed undoing Obama's damage.

Coal is still a very much viable and needed energy resource in this country, and I'm glad we're going to start using more of it again.

I do live in the real world and these regs had real world consequences as they SHUT DOWN coal fired plants. You shutter plants you decrease demand. Yes, gas is a competitor, but this decline happened with a great assist from Obama.

Actually coal use around the world is huge.

I have ignored this topic pretty much. Obama's regs are costly to coal business, but, I don't think this will help them much, even if the cost of coal drops. Too many have shifted direction, no matter the prior cause. WV really needs to get into the vacation spot business. Not necessarily Dollywood type, but more of a Blowing Rock, NC style... log cabin, wood floor, folksy resort towns. The attractions are better in WV than NC.

Mostly agree, but there is no reason to give up coal in the short term. Hopefully it can be a much needed bridge. We also need to work on high speed internet, roads, education, etc.

We need to diversify. Tourism is good but not the answer. Mostly low wage jobs in a service industry. Coal will never be what it once was. Those jobs paid very, very well. The support industries like manufacturing of equipment paid very, very well. We need to make things and encourage development that pays well. Very tough in a state with poor infrastructure. Justice has his work cut out for him, for sure.

I hope the Chinese being buying more WV coal since as an overture to Trump, they have stopped buying North Korean coal. It's a start.

If we can recapture some of the industry and with Trump's love of nat gas and oil, hopefully we can develop and transport (pipelines, like Rover) our fuels to areas of the country in great need of more supply. Very, very good paying jobs.

The great news is that New York won't permit fracking. Huge market. Not very far away.

I think Coal is still the preferred energy source for roughly half of the electric power generating stations in America. But they weren't allowed to burn it because of all of the EPA restrictions.

Technology to clean up Coal emissions is much better today than it was even 10 years ago. Coal is plentiful and cheap. I think it makes a huge comeback as long as the EPA allows its use without all of the choking restrictions.
