Trying to pick my top team this season

Ugh, it's been too long since I could argue my Hilltoppers were the preseason 1.

OK, LA is the best program right now. They have great talent returning, great numbers, and a top three coach in state.

LWE is an easy pick for me at 2. they also have a top three coach in the state. I do not think that LWE will have an issue with the merge this season. I do believe that eventual talent in the area, which there is plenty, will turn elsewhere. Interesting if that talent turns to MC or PC...

Three is my lighter shade of brown dark horse Brook. I think we see what should be one of the state's better defences and the offense could light up. If it doesn't, and does a big kerplunk like we have seen in the past, then brook may end up ranked 48th.

Dont you wish this on us Ricky Bobby...

I think you have to go with LA or LWE @ #1
GBW fans are calling this one of the best Hitter teams (more on them as we approach week 1)

Gotta talk about Montini, and they have a chance to really bolster a #1 end of season claim.
Yes, Mt. Carmel lost the #1 prospect for next season, but that was a drop in the bucket of talent MC has in the stash. They are my dark horse.

The problem with the gw claim is that it is the claim every year. That's not to say gw is not good every year, they just aren't "their"best team every year. We now have knowledgeable gw posters on the board, and that helps come to an objective view of them though.

I don't know a whole lot of bronco this year. I do know Naz and bronco have to play soon or else I might lose interest in that rivalry.

Mc for me is a wait and see. Last year's Mc team confused the hell out of me. I believe, unlike others it seems, the loss of Griffith was enormous. To have a top ranked dB in this day and age is an amazing advantage. Mc cld win it all, a top ranking is on ice for now.

Loyola

So talented, so much depth, amazing coaches.

I think they're #1 right now.

And don't forget they have Jwar's favorite coach as their new OC.

Ok Gentleman (and any ladies out there) - anyone want to toss together their top 10 or top 20 preseason rankings?

I see Loyola and LWE as 1 & 1A

Nap North is #3 [SF]

I think Cary-Grove will be 13-0 with 46 returning starters heading into a showdown with Montini in the finals.

MC may have a bumpy regular season but I predict they win 7A because C-G and Rockford Auburn and Montini all 6A. Maybe ESL is ready to play a full schedule and return to glory.

The winner of DaBrook v GW should be anywhere between 3-5.

Btw - GW does not have it's "best" team this year, but this senior class is trying to become the 1st class at GW to run the table. Still five weeks left but GW may start the season with a junior QB for the first time. Everything changes when the pads come on in August but the kid looks good.

what? really? That is pretty amazing. I'm rooting for the junior then. Sorry to the senior kid, but that is a great story if it turns out. It also must mean he's pretty good...

Was...what's the thought on giving gw the nod over LA?

Opinion, or do you see a star player at gw that makes the difference.

Nothing more than a hunch. I think with GW it's the system that makes them so great and the defense always steps up in big games. Loyola loaded and therefore a very tough pick for #1.

Since 6A is still split north and south the cG vs MCHS would likely be a semi final with montini likely to have 1-2 loses it may even be a quarter final. first game of the season will be CG toughest until the playoffs.

Per scouices preseason class breakdown naz stays in 5a these teams may never play until one or the other is having a serious down year

Could be round 1, as I see Montini 5-4. Rough sledding for the Broncos.

Dont try sandbagging it this year. This is a year I could support Montini ending up #1 if you run the table and your opponents have great seasons.

Your too pessimistic short of some season ending injuries 7-2 is very reasonable. I'll say first weeks loss on the road (always takes a game to figure out final positions rotations) wins at home against LZ and MC an instant classic bronco win on a late field goal, tough loss on the road at BR. Green is down this year with the exception of the meteors. SF and MA both have some numbers issue for depth Fenwick will be better but not there yet.

GBW? You realize Brodner graduated, right?

Street and Smith's has the top ten going LWE, LWW, PC, WV, GBW, GBN, Pal, Stevie, MCHS, Naz, with LA as honorable mention, below HF and PR.

I'd throw OPRF in that mix. This is their year.

I was absolutely sleeping on PR when I said that. Facing CG last year in semis, it seemed every kid we tracked was coming back this year. Tough bunch that fought like hell and impressed immensely on the goal line stand at the half to keep them in that game.

PR seems to be building a monster out there. If I wasn't going to be a Da Brook on opening Friday, I would be at the PR/CG match up. That game will provide some answers..

btw - This blind spot is why I would never be a good DSR voter.
