MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 24, 2023) – Playing the best baseball of his WVU career, graduate student Tevin Tucker has been rewarded with Big 12 Player of the Week honors after his superb performances against Pitt and TCU.

Tucker hit .571 (8-for-14) with a double, two RBI, and seven runs scored as the Mountaineers went 4-0 and now sit in first place in the Big 12 standings. He had a hit in all four games, including multiple hits in three contests, highlighted by a 3-for-4 performance in the Backyard Brawl.

As the newly minted leadoff hitter, he played his part with a .684 on-base percentage and scored at least one run in all four games while stealing two bases as well. On Sunday against the Horned Frogs, he collected two RBI including the game-clincher in the seventh inning as the Mountaineers run-ruled TCU, 17-7.

Tucker also shined defensively at shortstop, making several dazzling plays while not committing an error in 17 chances.

On the season, the Prince George, Virginia native is fourth in the Big 12 with a .379 batting average and third in on-base percentage at .509 while stealing 15 bases, eighth-most in the conference.

He is the fourth WVU player to pick up honors this season after JJ Wetherholt earned Player of the Week on Feb. 27 while Blaine Traxel (Feb. 27) and Robby Porco (April 10) were each named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

Tucker and the rest of the Mountaineers will be back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Penn State. First pitch from Wagener Field at Monongalia County Ballpark is set for 6:30 p.m.
