Ross Hodge excited about Amir Jenkins addition

It’s not often that a college basketball program can land a player of the caliber of Amir Jenkins at this stage of the off-season but that’s exactly what Ross Hodge and company did.
Jenkins, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound point guard, had initially intended to remain in the 2026 class, where he was considered a top 100 player nationally. But given his strong academic situation, he explored the opportunity of potentially moving up a class.
At West Virginia, he found the opportunity he was looking for to make the leap.
“It was more a matter of just him becoming comfortable with the opportunity that we had for him. Just kind of went really hard and really aggressive with him,” Hodge said. “We’re excited to add him.”
This past season, Jenkins averaged 21.7 points with more than three assists and three rebounds per game and is another player on the roster that has won multiple championships at the high school level. He also played at a really high level on the AAU circuit and garnered a long list of offers.
“A guy that makes other people better by being around him. So feel fortunate to be able to add him when we added him,” Hodge said.
On top of being physically ready for the next level, Hodge quickly recognized after getting involved in his recruitment that he was mentally ready, too. That is typically one of the biggest hurdles for players making the leap up a class but Jenkins is primed to step into an immediate role.
“We felt like he was and his family certainly felt that way as well. And you know we look forward to getting Amir in the fall,” he said.
