Good for him, coaching football is a grind, hope he enjoys life off the gridiron.
One of my favorites of all time, enjoy retirement!!
Until 2AM finishes I still think TG was our best all around QB in Husker football history..
Nebraska beats Clemson if Gill plays in that OB so long ago, and that’s no slight towards Mark Mauer, he was a tough player that didn’t quite have the tools Gill did.
Well, being the same age and probably not looking at retirement for another 10 years or so, I for one am quite jealous -- although I do enjoy what I do, and don't have to recruit 17 -18 year olds so there's that.
A little KU money probably helps fund the early retirement. Good for Turner.
Good for him. A classy guy who will always represent NU well. Now that he is retired, I wonder if we'll see him milling around a bit more.
I could look it up...but curious if anyone knows how did he do at Liberty??? Never paid any attention to him what-so-ever there.

A small tidbit mark mauer had a torn rotator cuffing in his throwing arm he couldn't throw very in that game
i still remember my friends and i getting our copies of athlon's and the old 'big 8' magazines they used to put out in the summer of '80 and thought to myself when i read Turner's write-up, while my buddies made predictions about ou and the also-rans, that our fortunes had changed for the next few years...so close...so close.
Gayle's dad was our family vet out in Kearney.
It's funny, of the thousands of kids "the other dude" has coached and mentored, I have never heard 1 bad thing said. The only ones who are triggered are those who have never had any personal contact with the dude. Seems like a "me" problem.

A hypothetical question, would have Turner been more successful than frank had Tom chose Turner to be his successor?

Yes, his retirement is not being done for happy reasons. It's necessary to take care of his wife who has heart problems. I wouldn't expect him to be taking any kind of other job any time soon unless she gets much better.
I don't think Turner is a guy who needs alot of money and KU certainly paid him enough to be comfortable. Those things coupled with his wife's health issues makes this make sense. I hope we get to see him in Lincoln sometime soon. IF he wants to pursue other career options he will get offers.
Coach Gill is a class act. Watch this, you can feel how much he cares about the people around him.
Why Tom ever hired Bo over this guy is beyond me, I will go to my grave saying Turner would have gotten the job done here.
Well you would have been wrong. Turner wasn't the answer, but neither was Frank, Bill, Bo or Mike...
I think he would have been a much better fit than Bo, but I'm not sure he would have won any more games than Bo. I know one thing. Turner would have hired a better defensive staff than Bo did. Tom hired Bo because the money wanted him to hire Bo.
We'll never know for sure if Turner could have been the answer at NU. Purely speculation.
