Turnovers....

On the season, we've taken real good care of the ball. We only turn it over 14% of our possessions and that's 14th in D1. It was even higher before last night.

You cannot turn the ball over 1 in 4 trips down the court and expect to win. Butler had 6, Oweh and BG has 4 each.

It just goes to show that averages are just that......averages and things can happen in any specific game.

Outside of that, our performance on offense was similar to the Bama get in terms of shooting %, rebounding % and getting to the line.

Had we just taken care of the ball, we walk out of there with a comfortable win.

My thoughts as well. The only areas they beat us in were turnovers, steals and maybe blocks. The rest, it wasn't close. That Frieda person knows Vandy was lucky as hell to get that win. After a night of cooling off, I think we lost it to Tennessee.

We were very fortunate to win that game indeed. How we won it is typically how we win games. Tyler Tanner is a world class thief and he did it again down the stretch yesterday. It only showed that he had 2 steals but he was involved in 4-5 robberies. We are undersized and aren’t great shooters but we make up for it by getting more chances through turnovers and offensive rebounding.

Kentucky is a very good team as proven by wins over Duke, Gonzaga, Florida, Mississippi St, Texas A&M and Louisville. Yes indeed, I feel very lucky to have witnessed that win in person. Win or lose, it was an electric atmosphere, fans were maybe 50/50 and I got to go with my son.

But to your point, I totally agree that win was lucky.

Butler even turning over the ball some which he hardly ever does, Vandy manhandle Ky, Ky just got outplayed and out coached, I am surprised that Pope does not use some zones sometimes.

Will be interesting when UK plays Missouri, a mirror image of VU but better. Turnovers have a lot to do with the defense and they will force a bunch.

Williams and Garrison had a 5 inch height advantage on the man guarding them but both are pretty abysmal at posting up and scoring. Vandy knew that and weren’t going to leave our three point shooters to help. Carr is the only guy on our entire roster with even a decent post up game . We are COOKED without him .

17 turnovers and 14 points off turnovers, was the difference. Can’t play sloppy against good teams and expect to win. Value the ball, on to the next.

Tanner is tremendous !! If he enters the portal, he could get a huge paycheck, I think. Only 2 turnovers in over 400 minutes of action as a PG is incredible !! Especially … as a true Freshman !!

For sure. Tanner will make good money next season. I’m sure Vandy will pay him well, he loves Coach Byington, he loves Vanderbilt, he’s from Nashville and his family loves watching him play at home so odds are pretty good he’ll be our starting point guard next season.

We have a nice core group next season if it all works out but as we know, the world of transfer portal and NIL is a crazy one.

PS - I know he doesn’t have the measurables (which is why he was only a 3 star) but I believe he will have a long NBA career.

Worth noting that Byington had to rerecruit him; he came to play for Stackhouse, bless his heart.

Turn overs against Vandy killed UK and most were not forced. That is what sucks, it was like they slept walked thru that game.
