Yikes, I just read it. Wants to step back from the program to spend more time with his family. Sucks!
Is there a possibility he or someone in his family could have health issues? It doesn't need to be problems between him and BV or the Adm it really could be a family issues so we don't need to jump overboard.
First thing I thought of was---I wonder if some of the "Old OU money" didnt agree with the changes Turnipseed suggested and things went south from there.
There is a lot more scuttlebutt than there is likely truth.
I think there is a consensus that he's a type A plus persohnality, and can be hard to work for. There is close to a consensus that the economy has been a factor in accomplishing all the money this is going to be required for an enormous task.

Not only were some people within the OU staff at all levels offended by TT. There were also some donors put off by him.
That not only was TT highly paid, but some thought his commitment wasn't fully to OU. His family seems to not have an Oklahoma address, even though his son is an OU student. Some thought his time for what he was being paid, weren't exactly in line.
Some don't think he was getting along well with Joe H and Joe C. He seemed to have his own agenda, and assuming that his superiors in the OU structure would just do whatever he wanted. More than a few seem to think this might cost us BV long term
My own conjecture is that a 6-7 season wasn't good for his plan. Some BIG money people, are being expected to pour in BIG bucks to make this happen. The first season under .500 since John Blake is not a great help in getting big money raised.
There's another 15 to 20 things that are conjecture out there, at least. It's all over the place. I don't think we can put much value on what's out there, compared to the truth. Some of it probably has a lot of truth in it. But I wouldn't be surprised if we don't know much about that, until BV is OUr former coach, whether that be three years from now, or 23.

All I ever heard was from Scottsdale who was very pro TT
Scottsdale always had great, reliable information! We would already know what happened with TT and OU. Rarity!
TT seems like a "My way or the Highway" kind of guy,, and that will not work inside the Sooner walls.

Or it could simply be a case of a guy who decided, "This job isn't for me" and made a change. I've been there.
Sorry not sure how to phrase this but is Scottsdale no longer with us? I always enjoyed his posts.
Unfortunately, Scottsdale passed early this year. When the TT story broke, I imagine most of us immediately thought of him. I know I did. He is missed.
Thad Turnipseed, like Lincoln Riley, did not invent Oklahoma football.
Not sure what the big deal is. TT doesnt coach a position, doesnt recruit a player, doesnt film or game plan. What he does is no longer needed. Yes its nice to have flashing lights at the stadium, a nice locker room with a barber chair, but unless he was helping with NIL, I do not see it as a big loss. The Switzer Center is a nice facility. We need donors to put that money in NIL not a $175 million athletic facility.

OU has much bigger things to be concerned about than Turnipseed's exit.
Yep. Next (SEC) season we’re likely to play 3-4 teams ranked in the top ten depending upon what the rankings are when we face Alabama , TX, TN and LSU. But a lot can change before 2024.
Yep, Turnipseed did nothing to help Alabama and Clemson achieve their success. No loss at all to OU as they head to the SEC.
And I believe Saban and Sweeney somehow had “a little” more to do with their programs’ success than anything else.
Duh. But they didn't do it alone. Coaches don't do Turnipseed's job.
Regardless of the reason TT left OU, he's gone and there's not a damn thing fans can do about it. If his job is so very important as I am sure it is, then JC and Venables need to find a suitable replacement. People leave and sometimes it hurts but that's part of the any business. I'm sure TT will show up somewhere else in the future, and OU will find a suitable replacement. Perhaps not as talented as TT. Too bad it didn't work out for OU and TT. But he's gone and if he didn't want to be at OU, we're better off anyway.
Who held that position at OU before Thad Turnipseed was there?........Isnt this a position that BV made just for him?
No. The disaster that was Clark Stroud preceded him. Before that it was Matt McMillen for about 20 years.
I think the difference was that Stroud and McMillen understood that their job was to enhance the HC's view among the media and fans in general. Turnipseed didn't seem to care whom he pissed off.
