Two Hands Rebound vs Tip to Teammates

Not a Bennie, but I have noticed that our players seem to tip the ball back or rebound with one hand. Obviously before, Cal made it a point of emphasis for our players to rebound with 2 hands. In fact, I can remember him pantomiming 2 hands as he benched players.

But…I’m more of a fan of the tip. It keeps the action moving and the defense out of position.

Anyone else notice this? What’s your opinion?

It seems like this team has struggled to strongly secure many key rebounds. Otherwise, this has been a good defensive rebounding team. Very good. Kentucky is the best defensive rebounding team in the SEC.

If you cant grab it, you should tip it
Possession of the ball is imperative to scoring.
Seems easy enough.

I am shocked at that stat honestly. As you said we have lost so many key rebounds. I think we don’t offensive rebound very well. Our defense on first shots is also pretty good but we give up multiple attempts to good teams too often. That’s mainly why this stat surprises me.

If you tip it, the other team has an equal chance of getting it. Grab it with two hands, then layup , or pass it.

A controlled tip to an open teammate is great. Being able to make a controlled tip also means you could get possession. So it's a choice. Great players make great split second choices. The big picture the best is to get possession of the ball. That's best done two handed. Possession of the basketball is the most important part of the game. Just tipping it wildly means it can end up the opponents hands too.

Totally situational. It’s worked out well a few times this season but there’s also been a few instances where the other team ends up with a run out as a result. It reminds me of saving the ball inbounds when you’re under your own basket. Can get you a possession sometimes but can also lead to easy buckets for your opponent.
