Chris Stapleton was the musical guest on SNL last night and brought his buddy Sturgill Simpson who is from Jackson, KY with him. They both sang on "Forty Miles to Memphis" and had a guitar duel in the middle of the song. Love the music these guys put out. Them along with Jason Isbell are the new "Outlaws" of the alt-country music scene. Main stream/pop country stations play Stapleton but won't touch Sturgill's or Isbell's music. Sirius radio's Outlaw Country station plays all of their music..

I like both guys, and like the new alt country, but really don't like either one of those songs

Here's an example of country music. Don't know what you would call all this other stuff.

Great performance.

Like both songs and both artists, which is high praise because country isn't really my bag. I liked these two songs, but obviously the metalhead is gonna like the rock-tinged tunes over the more down tempo straight country stuff.

Also, here's modern "bro country" in a nutshell:

In the most boss move ever, Sturgill who was not invited to the CMA's, shows up, sets up outside the arena and gives a free concert before and during the CMA's.
