1. Banker speaking is a combination of Bill Callahan and Fred Petito.

2. Watch the reaction of our sideline when we recover the fumble on the kickoff. Very telling imo.

Sitting behind the bench for the last two bowl games I definitely perceived a different vibe this year than last year (2015). At Foster Farms the team seemed pumped, Friday, not so much. Maybe it is because against UCLA the team felt lucky to be there, whereas this time maybe this bowl was a letdown. Or, maybe missing TA, Westy and NG took some of the wind out of their sails. Or - maybe it was something else, maybe the lack of fire can be placed on the staff. Banker alluded to the vibe in his presser saying the practices were crisp, but it didn't translate to the game. He seemed somewhat perplexed about it. UT was on fire from the get go and played up to the largely home crowd.

Several key factors need to upgrade to get NU to where we need to be (talent, depth, development, etc.) Additionally, badass team leaders need to emerge because this staff are not rah rah guys.

I haven't re-watched game yet, but sometime after the other bowl games I will but I did kind of notice a lack of enthusiasm.

This team could use some pointers from all those players that were on the 93 team. You know, the ones that made spring football and summer workouts in 94 a Holy Grail of sorts, forging an attitude the likes we haven't seen in a looooonnnnggg time in Lincoln.

You can bet the coaching staff back then helped drive that attitude and were not in the least surprised when those players answered the call. This is not a "let's go back to that kind (option) of football" comment. It's a desire to see that kind of commitment. Some of the current players have it, but who's going to go all Peter Brothers and rally their teammates this spring and summer?

I was at the game and noticed it very much. The music was blasting at one point and Tennessee's sidelinee was all jumping up and down and you looked over at ours and it was as if we were all just blah.
It was an ok time but wishing I wouldn't have wasted the money for sure.

I think there is hope. Guys like Gates, Morgan and some of the guys playing on special teams seem to want to get after it. I think there are also some badasses that redshirted this year.

Oh my freaking God people. Now it is Riley's fault our players lacked enthusiasm because his sideline demeanor is so calm??? Are you kidding me???
Does anyone even remotely remember a certain coach we had whose name escapes me right now... oh yeah... Tom Osborne?? He sure was a real "girl on fire" on the sideline wasn't he?

Maybe you are correct but maybe there are still several bad apples within the program that will need to be dealt with next season. Hopefully they will be dealt with a little better than they dealt with the "classless" safety.

I wonder why someone as intense as Bo fielded so many teams that lacked fire.

It is kind of funny Coach Petito was mentioned at the top. I know Fred, and he isn't much of a rah guy either. I also know a bunch of his former players, and he has a style to him that promotes guys playing with their hair on fire. Much like Osborne, he has a core group of "enforcers" that are able to motivate the rest of the players. By motivate, I mean they are bullies. That isn't very PC in todays world. I bet Nick Saban has a whole bunch of bullies. The Peter Brothers were this type of motivator. I am not sure this present team has any of those guys, and I am not sure it is encouraged. BTW, I couldn't stand Pelini. He was a hothead that didn't tend to teach much. He had the motivator part down though. It would be nice to have a blend of motivator and teacher.

Darlington was TO's bad cop. Every HC needs an assistant or two like that. I don't want my HC taking himself out of the game like Pelini did. His emotional outbursts lasted too long and the team usually melted down as a result. The best coaches of all time we're not screamers. T.O, Bill Walsh, Joe Gibbs, Landry etc. But they had a few on staff.

After the last 2 basketball games, maybe the football players need to get an explanation on intensity and fire from some kids named Morrow, Jacobsen, Webster and Watson.

There has to be a core of leaders within the team that value accountability, both in themselves and others. Who do we got? From what we've heard, Lee is a popular guy. Maybe he becomes one of those guys. DPE? Stan?

There is a bad leadership problem no doubt. It just seems like for the last 15 years football doesn't seem that important to a lot of our players. I don't know if it's the type of guys we're recruiting or what.

Remember that before our bowl game last year there was a "players only" meeting that was apparently quite explosive with all the pent up anger and frustration toward everything spilling out into the open. After that meeting there was, at least for the bowl game, a whole new unity and purposiveness to the team. So yeah... it has to be primarily player motivated/generated
