Two Upset Predictions for Vandy

For us to win, two different teams will have to show up on Saturday from what we have seen in the first 2 games for both.
No doubt the Real Gamecocks will need to show up but I'm not sure Vandy has looked like world beaters either.
That was not the same fired up VT team who showed up in the opener against us.

There's a LOT for Beamer to fix in one week. Vandy is coming in confident and playing well. I have zero confidence in our OL - and as they go, so goes out offense - and am slightly concerned about Vandy's offensive success. I have a prediction in my head that will be unpopular.

The scary thought is that maybe the real Gamecocks have already showed up. We'll find out in this game if we're can be better than what we've seen or if we are what we are. I'm sure the coaches and players know all the narratives going around about the team after the first 2 games. If we are actually capable, you would have to assume they will rise to the challenge and answer the critics.

True, but they are playing very well right now and we have not played well. Clark Lea is a very good coach.
He is a very good coach, and he's a Vandy grad, so I don't see him leaving to go elsewhere.

Two Observations from me, First one, like someone said earlier, VT was fired up for the first game especially against Beamer. remember, VT didnt score a TD vs SC, Vandy cant say that. Secondly, the SC state game was 2+ hours delay, had to have some effect on them, and i am sure Shula was being vanilla thinking they would beat SC St easy.. So i say Cocks win, 27 -17 and cover.

I'm going 31 - 17 Cocks

Would be thrilled with either outcome. But I'm operating under the assumption that if our offense could hardly score on SC State, we are going to struggle against Vandy.

If our OL couldn't hold up against SC State, why will it perform any better against Vandy?

I'd say Carolina was fired up for the first game too, since it was Beamer going against VT and the first game thing applied to us too. Our O still only managed 17 points. SC State also endured the delay and it didn't seem to hurt them too bad.

I don't think Shula has a bunch of secret plays he hasn't been showing that he is going to pull out against Vandy. The VT game was a dogfight for three quarters, I think he was running every play he had. Vandy shut VT out in the second half so Vandy's D isn't exactly weak.

A one point win will be good enough.

We do have a tendency to play up to the competition, so hoping that's the case.

A sad state of affairs, indeed, when we're talking about playing up to the competition vs Vandy.
Why are you so "DOWN" on Carolina's abilties?? you have been negative about everything they do. A win is a win, They beat VT holding them out of the endzone!! Vandy cant say that. I am impressed with the defense and i am HOPING (unlike some posters) that the Offense comes around!!

I am simply basing on what I've seen, which is almost zilch offensively. Save for 3-4 plays against Va Tech, Sellers hasn't really done much. He had zero forced tackles against SC State...zero...against an FCS team.

We have been simply unable to run the ball.

I'm not saying and never have said we won't win on Saturday, but if we do, it will require a total offensive transformation from the first 2 games. If the offense performs on par with the first 2 games, we will lose handily.

This defense have given up 1 TD this year, and it was a fourth Qtr "mop up" TD in a game that had already been decided and was two hours delayed.... So the Defense will do their job (IMO) and Hold Vandy to less than Three TD's. I also feel confident SC can score at least three (Offensively or special Teams)!!

I'm not super worried about the D, but they have their work cut out for them with Pavia.

He's hitting at a high rate on his passes. Vandy has nine pass plays of 20+ yards and our D has allowed nine pass plays of 20+ yards, so I'm a bit concerned about secondary. We need to get into their back field and be disruptive.

The run game is a major liability for us. The best thing we can do is keep Pavia on the sidelines but we have sucked on 3rd down this year, largely b/c of the run game.

I ddn’t want to say anything for fear of the natives getting restless, but i saw that too; VT just laid down, at home, in that second half.
