Ty Simpson: the $6.5 million man (and more tampering?)

He has declared for the NFL draft but he has received offers from Ole Miss, UT and Miami to transfer. Reportedly, Ole Miss and UT offered $4 million while Miami has allegedly offered $6.5 million.

Obviously, we all know NIL deals are wholly unverifiable. However, the first question is: is he even worth that much? He was good this year. Very good at times. I wouldn't say he was great.

The second question: how are schools making publicly reported offers to a player who isn't in the portal? Tampering happens. No secret about it. But so far it's done back channels. Unverifiable. All 3 schools have apparently tendered formal offers. How is this not slam dunk tampering? He's declared for the draft, but is there anything "official" about that which would allow schools to pursue him to transfer instead?

I'm not surprised if it is true. If teams were offering Sellers $4 million after last season, Simpson would be a bargain at $6.5 million.

Im I'm the "none are worth it" corner.

But, if I wanted to justify the move for someone like the Canes? If they have the money, I would imagine they're excited to see what this guy can do with a good running attack, and not having to carry the team every play.

Add me to the "none are worth it" camp. I also don't think coaches are worth $8-10 million per year. Glad I don't buy season tickets and pay for Gamecock Club like I did for 3+ decades. Someone has to pay for that "crazy".

Good point, getting to play with a degree of confidence from your team mates would certainly relieve a lot of put upon pressure.

Likely most coaches are not worth their pay I.e. Beamer but what is Curt Cignetti worth to Indiana? He might be underpaid.

Probably so. If a coach can win championships, he is worth the money, period. The schools will make that money back many times over, especially at a place like Indiana that has never sniffed at this level of success before.

But for some reason, most programs feel that if they just pay a coach a championship-caliber salary, he'll win championships - even when he's never come close to winning one.

If Simpson has publicly announced his intention to leave, then it would seem the tampering argument would not be valid.
Digging in here, a player MUST be in the transfer portal to be contacted by other schools, even if that player has declared for the NFL.

I guess it's really immaterial. There really is no such thing as tampering since it's fully allowed.

This is why I laugh at people who want others to contribute to NIL avenues for our school or any school. Sports in it’s pure form is supposed to have rules and guidelines. That’s what makes Sports great. It’s like an eight year-old football game and the rule states anyone over 135 pounds cannot run the ball. But then you take the one coach who decides to let his 141 pounder run the ball …..of course there’s no scales to stop it at the game.

basically, as it’s been said College Sports has become pick up Football, basketball, baseball, etc. So South Carolina is playing, I’m watching. I sure would like to win, but I don’t lose sleep when we lose any longer. Maybe this is a good thing.

Not really relevant to college football and these discussions but I heard on Dan Patrick that Mike Tomlin was making 25million per year.Good work if you can get it.

True. It just goes to show our priorities are not good. We value entertainment over occupations that can produce a better world.
Can anyone say actors? They are paid millions of dollars to read other people's words and to play pretend they are someone else... Most people grew out of the play pretend stage at about age 4, others not so much....

I will up that. Josh Gad and Kristen Bell will be paid $60 million each for simply providing their voices to two "Frozen" movie sequels. SMH

I liked Kristen in "The Good Place" and Josh Gad in "A Dog's Promise" and "A Dog's Journey". There will be no acting involved. They are to just go into a studio and speak into a microphone, words off a sheet of paper. $60 MILLION. What a life!!!! Can anyone beat that?
