Club sits on an island in the Atlantic with 50,000 people. There used to be a heavy US Air Force presence there that was heavily reduced a few years ago. From what I looked up from 2,000 to 200. Some of the best weather in the world.

Hope this is the start of a great career. John Shurna is entering his 4th season in the ACB with Gran Canaria. Another great place to spend a winter.

You threw me for a few minutes there.
I thought you were saying Verhoeven was going to be playing in the ACB.
He is not.
Lusitania is in the Portugal - Liga Betclic.
According to a Euro basketball website, Spain's ACB is the top pro league in Europe.
Portugal's league does not make the top ten.

The ACB has Shurna, Ethan Happ (Wisconsin) and Matt Haarms (Purdue/BYU) to name a few.
Jahlil Okafor (#3 pick in 2015 NBA draft out of Duke) is also in the league.
The number of American players is not that high - maybe 20% of the roster spots.

John Shurna makes $400K a year.

TV is, I am guessing, going to make $20 to $30K, plus housing, probably sharing it with 1 or 2 other players. Potentially paid meals at some local restaurant.

Sorry I was unclear. The Portuguese league is well below the ACB. But it’s a start. And the weather is great.
