Typical Cal ... loses Exhibition to TCU

The jury is still out on every team. Beating a down Kansas team in exhibition is not a reason to get the bighead. Losing on the road to TCU in an exhibition is no reason to throw the season away.

Just like UK playing mediocre in the last exhibition is no reason to throw the season away like a few of our fans seemed to imply: "going to be a long year". The jury is still out on everyone.

But I will say this on Cal...I know TCU is not Garner Webb or Evansville etc, but Arkansas losing brought back some very bad Cal memories from the UK days.

That's why smart coaches play division 2 teams to build the confidence before the season.

Smart ones.

Dumbasses play Power four teams in the preseason!

Now your team has some doubt...enjoy. idiot
Mindset is important.

And where was The mighty Johnel Davis? He not play?

Arkansas fans, I could have told you VERBATIM what Cal was going to say after this loss. He acts like you guys trailed all game lol. “We had every chance to win”. Yeah, generally with a 13-point lead 3/4 of the way through the game, you have a pretty damn good “chance”.
How far into the season will he break out the “don’t get on these kids , bring it at me “ line , lol .

He played. But only 22 minutes.
If he's not putting up numbers being their leading scorer ....I don't think they're going to be very good. He is their engine.. if he ain't running they ain't running.

Cuz you ain't going to get threes from DJ Wagner and boogie fland consistently against good defense.

I don't even believe he is improved. Last year he played better earlier in the season than he did by season end. The more Cal tampers with players the worst they play. As we painfully know, it isn't the players; it is Cal.
After we beat UNC I went over on the UNC and Duke boards to see what they were saying about it . The consensus on both boards were “they’re super talented but Cal will screw it up “ . They were right.

I loved the "we only have 5 guys to practice". Lol. And, "we either win or we learn".

Arkansas fans better get used to a lot of "learning" if games are close in the second half.

A 13 point lead is not enough to overcome Cal's lack of coaching/preparation against the better coaches.
If a coach only has 5 players to practice at this level, he should be fired immediately. There is no excuse for that type of incompetence at his experience level.

Leaves a TCU shooters wide open for 3 with like 20 seconds to go, bad passes in their final possession leads to an out of bounds play with 2 seconds to go, you already know its over when Cal has to draw up an out of bounds play to win with 2 seconds to go.

Fland gets a HORRIBLE look and it's not close. They lose by 1.

Edit : Arkansas with zero points in the last 3 1/2 minutes and shoots 29% from 3 with 14 turnovers lmao.
Yet Arkansas fans were bragging how they beat the number 1 (preseason ranking) team in the nation and how we were playing cupcakes and could not match up to their great team.

This might have been mentioned already, but Chin did the pre-game interview for the TCU game. Kenny Payne did the previous exhibition pre-game. As the first season as the head coach, I think you should do all of those, at least early on.

Did Chin just say "our 5 out actions". Ahahaha.

Cal is too good for these meaningless media things, I wonder if he wrote that into his contract. He gets paid the majority thru that kinda stuff, but he doesn’t have to do them.

Exhibitions don’t matter.

Regular season doesn’t matter.

Postseason doesn’t matter.

It’s all about that one night in June.

That’s the only win that matters to Cal.

I think you are really shortchanging Cal because that isn’t accurate. Regarding life on/around the court, draft night is only a fraction of what matters to him.

Signing days in the fall and spring also matter because that feeds draft night.

So, draft night is 1/3 of what matters to him…see just a fraction 😉🤣

I don't think he understands that Arkansas fans aren't grateful for what he did the first 6 years at UK. He's yet to do anything at Arkansas to justify putting his feet on the desk. It's also not a situation of late-Tubby/BCG era. Outside of last season's dumpster fire, Musselman has had Arkansas as a top 20 team the last few years. Two Elite Eights and a Sweet Sixteen in four years ain't chump change.

I couldn't find any highlights on youtube, but there's a video that was live streamed post game and you can go and look at the comments as they were live. They sounded like a lot of our takes we had under Cal. Even the guys hosting the stream with some concerns as well.
Some takeaways were familiar gems like lack of shooting, standing around, Big Z getting pushed around down low, players looked gassed, and getting abused in pick and roll. Thankfully that mess is gone.

I'm not gonna knock them. They played 2 big 12 teams n exhibitions while we play tomato can city.
Those games were likely scheduled before Cal arrived. I know what you are saying but that scheduling won’t continue.

At least he did not have the arkansas team in the Bahamas winning all the time against national teams in the preseason....only to come up short in your own conference during reg season and lose ncaa second round game.

That's 80 percent of our games the last few years.
