I didn't realize he was doing so well in the D-league for the Idaho Stampede (EJ SIngler also there). My question is, why isn't he playing for Minnesota? He got zero PT this year after having a decent pre-season.

They have a 5 guard rotation: Rubio, Lavine and a 50 year old Andre Miller share point duties plus Wiggins and Kevin Martin. Is there some business reason they are using Andre Miller over Tyus that I don't know about? Maybe they are trying to increase the value of Rubio so they can bring up Tyus after a trade?

Through 5 games in Idaho:
23.6 pts., 5.0 ast., 3.0 reb., 35 min.
48.5% fg, 42.1% 3pt

We would've been so nasty had he stayed. I think he made the right move. His stock was sky high.

Maybe they are just trying to bring him along slowly to get him up to speed without feeling the pressure to produce, and like said maybe they want to use him as trade bait, who really knows with these NBA teams but I do wish he was in Durham

In the little time Tyus got during the regular season he was completely overmatched. His home debut was really bad.

The Wolves are pretty young. Really young if not for KG, Prince and Miller. I think it has more to do with putting veterans who have won around some of the youth. Besides, Miller isn't playing that much either, and Lavine and Rubio are better than Tyus. They just want him to get minutes, and the D-League does that.

Seth Curry had about the same scoring average and is getting little to no time. Big difference in D league and nba. Change assist to 7 and that would be his line for an undefeated Duke team this year and instead of going #22 he would be a lottery pick in the upcoming draft after leading Duke to their 2nd straight FF

having veterans is the exact key. Unlike the 76ers...the Wolves believe their young players need veterans around to help teach them how to be professionals. IMO that is the right approach and something Jah could've really benefited from.

Anyway...Jones getting playing time in the D-league is more important then sitting the bench in the NBA. Hopefully he gets a legit shot in time.

I guess that's sort of my point. Ricky Rubio is shooting like 36% on the year and Miller sucks. I know Tyus would likely suck too. I suppose D-league minutes are good. I think he will get his shot in a year or two. Meanwhile, he's making 2.6 million over the next few years. It's hard to say he should've come back. He was never going to be a lottery pick IMO, though you never know. I feel like turning down 2.6 to try for 5-6 wasn't worth the risk. One injury, and he's screwed. The wolves can waive him after 2 seasons, bit given how he's played, he'd get other looks. It was a 50:50 decision. I think with Jah leaving, he just wanted to move on too. He's sorely missed.

As someone pointed out before, the D league seems very much easier to put up good stat lines. PJ Hairston had really good stat lines in the D league also, but it has not translated so well to the NBA.

The D-League plays no defense. It is a pace for guys to run and gun. Not a ton of structure. Jones is fortunate that he can go to the D league though because even with little structure it is good to keep your skills and conditioning on the court against competition.

I don't really see the reason Minnesota drafted Tyus other than that he is from Minnesota and they expected

I actually think Tyus could be an incredible piece for an NBA team. Even with poor defense in the DLeague, the kid can shoot NBA range 3's. He's very young. He is a hell of a passer, but he sucks on D besides hawking passing lanes. He need to get quicker off the bounce mainly, but he'd be a great role playing point. There are some very crappy teams that could use him to set up their athletes and not turn it over.

Tyus is still a kid. He's 19 years old. In the long run he's going to be a fine NBA player. But there are few, very few, teams that he's playing much on right now. It'll take some patience.

This post pretty much sums it up. I don't think there's a DI poster here who thought Tyus was ready to go into the draft. I really believe his decision was made on the emotion of his national tourney play but that's water over the damn and it is what it is both for Duke and Tyus. Hope he is a NBA'er in a couple of years. OFC

I personally think it is for down the road. Rubio is just not that good. IMO of course. He makes some fancy passes and can steal the ball now and again but he is hurt a lot and can't shoot.

When healthy Rubio is a little better than average. The problem though, as has been pointed out, he can't shoot a lick....but he does make others around him better, and he defends too.

Minnesota wants to be elite defensively. Tyus just can't fit in to that yet. He is working on it, but his vision and anticipation and shooting are NBA ready.

I think he defends well in the Iverson mold of defending. For instance, last night against the Celtics i remember thinking that whoever Rubio is guarding should attack him relentlessly (like teams did against Iverson) They did and had a high amount of success with it. Rubio is good at getting some steals and playing the passing lanes (also like Iverson). He is creative with the ball in his hands, but if i were a Wolves fan, i would not trust him with what might be the most important position in the NBA right now, point guard. Though the alternative right now is Tyus who is clearly not in that position, yet.

The NBA will soon realize Tyus just has that something special you need out there. Once he gets accustom to what is needed from him out there, he will provide it and in a top notch manner. Kid has win written in his genes.

Yep....I think Tyus will be fine too. Eventually I think they'll scrap Andre Miller altogether and let Tyus just go. Rubio is the starter for the foreseeable future, but moving LaVine off the ball and finding minutes for Tyus is something I expect to see down the stretch.
