What's fake? They cancelled the event, as they have others, because flying spaghetti monster forbid the know it all 20 year olds hear a different view. They are giving her a bigger spotlight and tons of cash. Great job!

Is this the ONLY event that was going to happen all year at Berkeley? No other speakers, sporting events, plays, movies, etc. ?

The Ann Coulters of the world don't schedule speaking events at places like Berkeley for just a little podium time.
What immediately came to mind for me was "The Last Temptation of Christ" .... that's been a good 20-25 years ago now and I would have had no interest whatsoever in seeing it except for all the fuss the evangelicals made over it.
Who knows how much more money they ended up bringing in to the movie just because of their protests.

Actually public funded universities can be defund if they don't permit free speech. But think about the implications. Universities are telling these babies, if you protest, you can shut down speech you don't like. It breeds even more protest, violence, assault. It is called a heckler's veto. Is this what you really support?
I don't see it as "backing down", I see it as coming to their senses. Let people speak, and let our future generations try to depolarize political discourse in this nation. Ann Coulter is part of the problem, but hearing her wedge driving, incendiary, attention getting, book selling crap should help both conservatives and liberals with open minds seek a more respectful and compromising environment, imo.
