I didn’t know watch the Dayton game but just by the score it’s clear Danny Hurley had lost his team for the time being and wasn’t concerned about getting them back until they get back to stoors. They’ll be fine. Maybe not 3 peat fine but they won’t be a team who loses to the Daytons of the world throughout the rest of the year

Shades of UK 2013. They lost their main dudes from a dominant title team and are ranked high based on past accomplishments. They are going to struggle some this year. I doubt they end up in the NIT, though.
Good coaches will assess and patch things up... come back strong toward the end of the year, ...or next at the least....

Yep. Hurley is a great coach, but like Cal, he lets his ego get in the way sometimes. He’s got that air to him that he is smarter than everyone else out there. That could be his undoing at least in the short term.

Some of UConn’s issues can’t be fixed though. Their guards are slow laterally and they do not have a big with the physicals to command the paint. I said UConn is a 5-7 seed two games ago, but I definitively see a bubble team.

Your probably right about them not continuing the losing when they get back to the rest of the regular season, but we can only hope it carries over. 😂

And I also agree that he lost the team while they were there. Whether it continues or not, that's not a good sign. He not only lost the team, he got lost himself. He was barking at officials, blaming bad calls for losses, and not preparing his team for the next game, win or lose. If there's one thing we've all seen from Pope that I admire, it's the "no excuses" mantra that he coaches by. Bad calls or not, there is a reason his team was in position to lose those games. You don't lose 3 in a row on bad calls. Excuses don't help a team improve. Maybe this team isn't as good as some thought they were. I'd be fine with that. 😀

Hurley got his two boys he wanted so bad and now they are killing them. ESPN talking about about how Mahaney and McNeely can't guard a light pole and Mahaney can't shoot and McNeely slow. Would have been better off in a faster style with less pressure on them to produce early.

I kind of think Hurley was a little arrogant in not getting more from the portal. They lost Klingen and Castle and two all conference type senior starters and replaced them with Mahaney and McNeely and a couple guys from off the bench with other guys on the bench moving up in reserve roles. I don't think he has enough to threaten a title this year but if he does everybody else is probably out of luck until he takes the NBA money.

We wouldn't have either without a top 5 pick being injured

He had already packed it in when yesterday before the game he said, “we won’t come back to Maui..” Shining example of a leader of young men. 🙄
Stay Classy Coach and never change. The new generation Bobby Knight
