Pope isn’t respected as an authority figure from his players. Too soft.
How is he soft when he was under Pitino? It blows my mind. I would kill for Rick tonight. He would have chewed azz. So disappointed in Pope.

If I was a coach and the players didn't respect me because I was soft, that would either lit a fire under my tail or it make me realize, I have to walk away because this isn't the right fit.

And we can blame this on NIL. 18-19 year old kids arent mature enough with millions of dollars. When you have one getting paid more than the next, it causes resentment.

Yeah but dozens of other programs are fine with various NIL paydays for their teammates. This reeks of just not a good roster from a mentality standpoint, and maybe coach being too soft.

Pope is too soft. Can you think of a championship coach on any level that acted like him? Maybe Tony Dungy? Can you think of anyone else? I'm sure they exist, but certainly not in abundance.

Brutal. Dioubante, Chandler, and Mareno are the only ones showing fight. Well Williams too, but he's having confidence issues. Something reeks when it comes to Lowe. Oweh can't deal with not being the man, but can't perform when given the shot. Aberdeen plays like a disconnected professional which is fine if you have a team made up of those kinda guys, but this one isn't. Something is up with Garrison because he's not getting fed down low; he's been open, but snubbed quite a bit. Noah looks lost like he doesn't know how to cope with the locker room... like he's just lost in the background. I don't think Pope is utilizing the right guys in fear of causing more tension behind the scenes. Absolutely mess.

Read your post and agree completely.
I could be wrong on some of the details but last year St. John's had a really food player, thinking it was their top guy who wasn't giving it his all on the court and Rick ripped his tail bone and he transferred out. Accountability is always needed for any job whether it is in school or rec ball.
I go to my HOA meetings and get so pissed when folks get up and complain that someone would dare question a board member for something and then hear "how dare you say anything negative, we are all volunteers that get paid nothing".
then the same people who said this will go to the kids rec ball game and blast the "volunteer" coach yelling crap like, "I paid for my kid to play" and other crap like this.
Without accountability, you have what we have seen the last two games.
Sad, I like Mark Pope but dealing with these kids today in this environment is much different than in the past. Look at the quarterback for UK who was given a nice NIL check to sit on the bench and then goes out and acts a fool on social media showing off his money.
When I watched Garrison stand there and let the same rebound get by him not once, but twice on the same shot and still play, I knew right then we had issues.

Players getting frustrated with each other is normal and might even be good. Frustration with failure is a trait of competitive spirit. Open confrontation is better than petty, behind the back snark.

Sometimes the team leaders need to chew on each other. You tell the rest of the team what they need to do and you do it forcefully.
Yeah, but if the team leaders aren't giving effort and still get all the minutes, no one is going to follow them.

Tony Dungy, yes. But Dungy worked in a league where you can flat out cut a guy. No guarantees in the NFL. Here, apparently you get a contract and you own the coach.
