Just watched the end of the Patrick Sparks game again on YouTube. There's never been a more clutch performance against the Birds. Two things I had forgotten about that game...

1) Ravi Moss hit a huge three to put us in position for Sparks' heroics. Ravi. Moss.
2) Sparks tried to miss the last free throw but it went in anyway. Look at the arc he put on the shot.

I still don't understand why Tubby told him to make the last free throw.

If he misses it, Cards have to heave it the whole way. But making the last FT allows UL to pass it in from out of bounds and get off a shot.

Read Sparks' lips as he looked over to the bench after the 2nd made shot, ''Miss it?'' then he shot it with a high arc in an effort to miss it.

You're right. And there's a higher chance of fouling on an inbounds play vs a rebound where they just have to heave it immediately

Really good free throw shooters have a hard time missing free throws. It's so much about muscle memory that their muscles overtake their minds at times.

Sparks was too smart to do anything like that. He probably runs away from the rebound and there was only .06 seconds left.

Imagine the hell that Tubby would have caught if UK had lost this game. That would have been 3 losses in a row to Pitino & Louisville something that has never happened. The 1st half of this game might have been the worst half of basketball that a UK team has played since the Final Four loss to Georgetown, it was looking like we were headed for a 30 point beat down. Then Patrick Sparks got hot. This comeback win might have saved Tubby his job.

That was a fun team and this game is one I have re-watched a couple of time over the years.

It’s been a while but wasn’t UL favored in this game? To me it was one the most satisfying wins during Tubby’s time at Kentucky.

I was at this game sitting in the Churchill Downs suite right behind the then Mayor of Louisville. Me, my sister, and BOL were the only UK fans in the area....GLORIOUS
