The Alabama commentators are trying much too hard. They sound like they are trying to imitate Brockmire.

Heyer has to be swinging there but the ball before was in the exact spot.

Umpire is giving up an extra inch on the outside for lefties.. I feel the right handed guys need to get it done. Just not feeling comfortable on the first swing.

Lead-off walk from Squires and base hit by Becker are wasted. Johnson battled with two strikes and LF made a nice play on a fly to shallow left, with Heyer going down on strikes looking.

This team really seems to be thrown off when they don't get favorable strike zones. Maybe that's just an excuse to our struggling in certain nights.

If we get two quick outs, we then get a couple hits. If we get a couple early base runners, we then can't get a hit. Maybe we can turn it around in the next inning.

Lol nailed it. Either way, they aren't capable of getting the big hit with runners on.

Hjelle got out of that one with three fly balls to left, but it seems like all of them were hit hard. He's got the control tonight for the most part but seems to just be leaving too much over the plate.

Dawson putting some good strokes on the ball. Hope he continues to hit like this. He got out on this one, but he's hitting it hard.

This is an important game. Cats have left 9 stranded through 7. Need to keep Bama off the board and find away to plate runs in the last two frames.

Bama has a runner on second with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Bama's best hitters, Holcomb and Vance, up to bat.

Bama gets a potential key insurance run back with a two-out RBI single in the B7. Tide 4, Cats 2.

Alabama has lost 7 in a row according to Headrick...

Hit into a double play. Going to need another 3 run 9th... that's all too familiar.

With Thompson out, it puts a lot of pressure to win Friday night. Cats haven't done what they've needed to win. Have only 3 outs to work with now.

Hope they can pull this out. What an absolutely terrible loss this would be. Cats really need to sweep this series against a crappy Bama team.

FINAL: Alabama 4, Kentucky 2. Cats lose Game 1 of weekend series. Tough loss to sustain. Tide entered on a 7-game losing streak and beat UK ace Sean Hjelle.

Top of the ninth:

Dawson K's looking
Pompey K's looking
Squires pops up to the catcher (who drops it in foul ground) and then K's swinging

Doesn't get much worse than that in a final at bat. Bad ending to a bad loss.

2-5 in conference play. Never saw that coming. The next two games are must have wins imo.

With Thompson out, there's a lot of pressure to win on Friday nights. Poor at bats with runners on, a base running mistake, and Hjelle leaving pitches up doomed the Cats tonight. Cats have dug themselves a huge hole in the SEC race (and their goals of hosting) just the third weekend into the SEC slate.

I believe last year we lost a series to a team we had no business losing to. It may happen again this weekend.
