-He never won a regular season conference title
-He never won a conference tournament championship
-His record was worse than the coach that preceded him
-He had zero record of being able to recruit elite college basketball players
He was making something around $1-2MM per year at BYU. Mitch bumped him up to $5MM. And, he gets an auto 1 year extension for making the Sweet 16 lol.

People are blaming Mitch, but Pope is getting paid and knew what he was getting into. Now- If he didn't get a sweetheart contract....then yeah, I would feel bad for him also. He belongs back at Utah State.

Mark Pope also never even had a 30 win season.

When Louisville hired Kelsey, I said it was a slightly better hire than Kentucky's hire just based on the fact Kelsey had won 31 games one of his seasons and had evidence he was trending up as a coach. Also he took 2 difference schools to ncaa tournament. He also had won 5 conference titles and 4 conference tournaments. Mark pope had won none. Why is Louisville hiring a better coach than us on paper? WTF, Fire Mitch already.

this is like "President of the University needing to step in" level failure. Mitch is the worst AD in the country.

Sadly Capilouto is Mitch’s friend and is pretty much as inept as Mitch so I doubt he steps in.

Every single other SEC except MAYBE Vanderbilt would have thrown Mitch out on his *** years ago. UK isn’t serious about sports. They’re fine as long as money keeps coming in. How many bad hires and horrible contracts can one AD make before the school fires him?
