I’m not concerned about our talent level. I think it’s within the realm of possibility that we are on the level of 2003-2005. Those were pretty strong teams.

My only real concern is how we step up in big games. We are going to have a bunch. Do we wilt under pressure, or remain cohesive?

If we wilt, I could see us being a 5-6 seed type of spoiler team. Remain cohesive and we can be a 1-2. Very few teams will be able to run with us/guard us for 40 minutes. And I don’t think we’ll be a revolving door on defense like we were last season.
Those teams had no where near the depth of this team.

I don’t see where you get that about talent. We got 2 to 3 of the most prolific three-point shooters in the country and we have three of the best defense players in the country. I believe our talent level is higher than 5 to 6.
Alas, the font of reason.

did anybody else think we ran a simpler offense with less zoom action our last game than the previous 3. I thought it was more just simple drive and pass, and pass around the 3 point line.. I wonder if Pope wanted to miss-direct Duke's study of us.

I’m excited for UK basketball for the first time in a very long time. I think most of us are
I also think we have a Diamond in CMP
That being said…it does well to be somewhat cautious..all the reasons are already mentioned in this thread
I feel we have a damn good team. Remains to be seen if it’s a great one. A loss to Duke will not be the end of the world…I’m not expecting to lose, but im also not naive enough to think a win is a given
No matter what though..I believe the game will be competitive and every single player will fight to the end

We actually have no clue yet. That might be the case. But we haven’t played anyone with a pulse yet. I’d say come January we’ll know how good we are
Both our two wins were higher ranked than Duke's two wins.

5 to 6 seed-level talent. 1 to 3 seed-level head coach.

I think our reasonable goal is a 4 or 5 seed.
I think they’re a better team, despite not necessarily having any lottery level draft picks, than a 4-5 seed. Guess we’ll know soon enough.

It would be a bad look for Scheyer to lose to Pope tomorrow night. He's established, now in his third year, playing with the probable #1 pick in the country.

The media will lash out at him if he loses to a first-year Pope team.

UK is playing with house money tomorrow night.
excellent point. we aught to be playing free and loose. which always makes for a dangerous team

They didn’t, but they had guys who had played a lot of games together. They had also been to back to back Sweet 16 ahead of that 3 year run.

We have to step back up and reclaim our spot at the highest levels. It’s more psychological than anything, imo.

Or, just take the devils by the horns from the outset of the season and never look back!

It's called, "playing in the SEC" and about 14 or 15 games against current top 25 teams.

You don't come through that gauntlet with a top 3 seed. Then again, you're the guy who thinks every UK team is going to win the national title.
If you win 9 or 10 of those 15, and lose the others respectably a 3 seed would be in order...that's probably a top 12 team resume

I don't think a team with this many threats needs one "go to" scorer. The team is built this way and I like that we may not need a "go to" guy.
Bingo! Cal type coaches need a go to guy to score late in a game and take over. Pope type coaches scheme guys open and play to their strengths. I’d rather have that any day personally.

For the life of me, I can't understand why a handful of posters here keep knocking our talent and athleticism. Not starting a fight, I just don't see what a few of your guys are seeing.

Its been proven time and time again in college basketball, that team ball with solid veterans and a strong bench is the way to go.

Cal used OaD successfully a few years when no one else was doing it but everything eventually caught up to him.

Having OaD talent is great but you still need the vets and great team ball. Alot of people like this UK team and I think as the season progresses, more and more people will come on board. Pope is coaching and running a scheme that is successful for today's game. Cal didn't like it but you need 3s. UK is shooting 41.7% of their shots from the 3. I don't think most realize how important that is. NOT just taking them but making them at a good rate.

UConn was taking 40-42% both championship teams.

There will be losses but Pope is doing great and coaching in a way thay can translate to a big run.

The SEC is loaded and it only gets tougher once conference play starts, but the SEC is going to get worst case 7 teams in and upwards of 10-11. No team is walking through it.

it's a long season. It's just getting started. Auburn was actually picked 6th by Norlander. It is what it is.

Let the basketball do the talking and enjoy the new staff, team.

Beat Duke!

It'd be interesting to hear what the scouting report is for tomorrow nights game....and Im talking about Duke's scouting report of UK.

Thank God we have a fresh coach though. He makes it a little more interesting versus a Cal coached team i think.

As I recall from high school, you had generic scouting reports...."Guy can shoot 3s" "Guy is right handed, make em drive left" etc....

I think our ceiling is a 1 or 2. 5 or 6 would be the floor, based on everything I've seen so far.
I could see a super high seed for sure but I think we average out between both. A 3 seed or above would be remarkable starting with 0 players.

Good for you. And what priority rank are you with the K Fund?
You didn’t answer the question. Dook degree or not? You criticized TH about not having a degree from UK. Tell us about yours.
