According to 24/7 Sports (whom I consider the worst recruiting site out there with a complete doosh for a CEO).

How big of a miss would he be for Cal in terms of replacing WCS and Dakari?

I believe that Cal can get Zimmerman if he wants him bad enough.

I have a feeling that if we don't get Zimmerman, it will be because of Bryant, Maker, Rabb and Swannigan are bigger priorities for Cal.

If Zimmerman has dropped us in his order it may be because Cal has dropped him in HIS order...

We want them ALL, but where is the reality in that? (Is that having Blue-tinted glasses?)

Personally, I don't want Zimmerman.... I'm sure he's good but I would rather have Swanigan.... I love the tough guys down low ala Cousins....

Why is everyone enamored with this kid? The one game I saw highlights of, he looked like a project at best.

Meh.

If you consider 247 the worst recruiting site out there, then why are you giving any credence to them saying UK is third for Zimmerman? Better yet, why are you repeating it as if it were a fact, and questioning how big of a miss it would be for Cal?

Zimmerman is a really good player, just not as good as a reclassified Maker, Swanigan, or Diallo. If Zimmerman really wanted to go UK bad enough he would of pulled the trigger before Skal did. Now with Skal on board we probably only take one more big for sure and Cal is going to wait on the guy he wants.

Zimmerman's recruitment is kinda like Randle's, where the national media seems to think there's no way he goes to UK, but the local media seems to think UK leads.

I'm not big on trashing a potential recruit who may be on the fence regarding his decision.

From what his mom posts about Cal, it would seem to me she wants her son to go here.

However I will admit to expressing concern for a potential recruit coming here - not because of his skill but because of the baggage he may bring that could potentially get our program in trouble.

Have a feeling Zimmerman winds up at UNLV. He's good enough but can really shine there vs. UK or KU. We'll see what happens. I think Bryant replaced Zimm as the big most likely to join Skal here. Cal has plenty of options.

not sure I would agree with your statement...........no doubt about Maker, but Diallo is way behind Zimmerman offensively, ball handling & passing. He is ahead defensively. Swanigan & Zimmerman are about the same, except Zimmerman is 7'0 & is mare adept at passing, while Swanigan is a banger. I much prefer Zimmerman, but Cal is the only one that counts & if he has cooled on Zimmerman...........so be it

agree Zimm is ahead of Diallo offensively. With Swanigan though I'm not sure Zimmerman does anything as well as him on either end of the floor except maybe high post passing. Swanigan plays a lot more like Draymond Green than people realize. Yes he is a banger 1st and foremost but he has a nice stroke.

I love when our fans do this. You didn't even see A game. You saw highlights of one game. And from that you know better than high level coaches and analysts who watch him play multiple games in full.

Great way to judge players.

I said this about two months ago, and got barbequed. I saw him play again this past week on the tube and he played around the perimeter. He doesn't have much of a post game, and he is not real strong. He is skilled, but I don't think that we need him as a perimeter player. I mean, will he be as good as a freshman as Willis is as a junior? I don't think so. If we do get him, I think he is at least a two year player, and maybe three.

He's a left handed 7 footer that runs the floor well.

Diallo is not as good and I've seen him in person.
Thon Maker is very lean as well and certainly no 'banger'.

I'm hoping we get Zim!

Cal has missed on recruits before so the saying of "if he wants him, he has them" doesn't ring true. Sometimes it has hurt UK like losing Bennett in 2013 but sometimes it's worked out like losing Shabazz in the same year. I don't know much about Zimmerman but we'll likely lose some depth in WCS, KAT, and maybe Dakari.

UK and Florida both quit recruiting Bennett.

Cal he definitely missed. Bazz and Wiggins were misses.

if Cal wants him he will get him .Zimmerman is a top 10 senior and an future first round pick . Anyone who doesn't want him is just flat out stupid . sorry it is the truth . YOu always want top 10 guys if they have good attitudes. period. Now i do think Swanigan , Maker and Diallo are all better players and Diallo is ours to lose IMO and Swanigan as well i think . Who knows where Maker goes but i would bet my money on KU if i had to . SO we might not get Big Z but it will be because we got someone Cal thinks is better. ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN - WE NEED TO GET AT LEAST ONE REAL CENTER. We might not lose all of WCS , Dakari , Towns but we will lose 2 of the 3 for sure and Lee isn't a center really and i want Skal at the PF spot .

You cannot judge a kid by ONE GAME ON TV. If you're talking about the game at the HoopHall Classic, it would be foolish to judge him on that game. If you did that with Stanley Johnson's game last year at the HoopHall you would be saying he was terrible.

I am not judging anyone. I just said that I have seen him play more than once, with last week being the most recent, and that game did not change my initial opinion of 2 months ago. I said that he is skilled, and he is. I am just not sure that we have a need for him, when he plays out on the perimeter. Caneintally said in his post, "we need a real center." While I agree with him, I am just not sure that Zimmerman is it, and anybody who watched him shy away from getting into the paint cannot honestly say that he is a "can't miss" center prospect. He may be a 1st round pick, at some time, but I am not convinced he will play center in the league, or that he is what we need to get us to the final four, next year. That is all I said, and that is my opinion. I could be wrong, but so could you. We all have our own opinion. That is why this board is here. Let's see how it plays out. I trust Cal and if he thinks Z is what we need, then I'm all for it.

Recruit is reportedly leaning somewhere else, everybody automatically claims Cal didn't really want him or he's not even that good.

how do YOU know he isn't Cals backup plan? you don't!! you just like the rest of us read tidbits of recruiting info and watch some video clips and draw your own conclusion...my conclusion is some potential but very raw likes to hang out by the 3 point line way to much for a big guy

This kid had UNLV written all over him from day one. First off, he's from Las Vegas. Secondly, his head coach at Bishop Gorman, Grant Rice, is the brother of UNLV's head coach Dave Rice. Wish the kid good luck and move onto the next one.

But isn't that the reasonable expectation? I honestly can't imagine either Will or Karl-Anthony coming back. Not sure what Dakari would gain coming back for another year - or maybe the better way to say that, I suspect everyone will be telling him he has nothing to gain, and if he's likely to be a first rounder.......Which leaves AP. Wildcard. Could see that either way. Would depend on his likely draft position, my guess.....

WCS, KAT, Dakari, Andrew, Aaron, Booker, Lyles ---> will be surprised if any of them return.

From our original rotation of 10, that leaves AP, Ulis and Lee returning.....

It's obvious reading this thread that the majority of y'all haven't seen these guys in person.

If you don't like Zimmerman because you think he plays out on the perimeter too much and doesn't have much of a post game then I guess you won't like Thon Maker either. That's what's funny about all the posters downing Zimmerman and wanting Maker. Maker plays the majority of the time around the perimeter and is even thinner than Zimmerman. Diallo is currently Marcus Lee. He's a energetic player who brings defense but has little to no offensive skills. He scores off lobs and put backs. Swanigan is good but he's not as good as Zimmerman.

Zim is a 7 footer with good offensive skill both inside and out and can handle the ball for his size. He also has potential to be a very good defender. Plus he's also a good, not great, athlete for a 7 footer. I'd much rather have Zim over Diallo and would take him over Swanigan as well. Maker needs to stay in the 2016 class both for his and UK's interest. For him he needs more weight and strength plus he needs to badly work on his game down low and forget roaming the perimeter and jacking 3's. He's a tweener in college. He's practiced and built his game to be a perimeter player but Cal isn't going to let him play outside at his size. Problem is he's not strong enough and isn't as skilled as he needs to be to make a big impact in major college ball like many fans think he will. For UK, we already have Skal who is built similar and has a similar skillset. Zimmerman is also similar. 2015 is loaded with bigs and 2016 is not. I'd much rather take Zimmerman in 15 and Maker in 16. I'd also pick having Dakari or Towns back next year over Maker.
