Yes and the players also know that. That’s why letdown games happen.
We have covered the spread and beat the dog snot out of most of the bad teams and then laid eggs against good teams recently. Beating Bellarmine down would mean nothing. We have a tough road ahead and we gotta get work done to land a good seed.
That we have, which is why this game irks me as well. It means something in that they care enough to take each game seriously. That is my main issue.
I wish they did, but I’ve watched long enough to know no teams take every game seriously. Remember that 2015 team beating the brakes out of everyone with a pulse?
They beat Columbia 56-46. Unfortunately, these are tune up games and coaches use them to pad efficiency numbers and try tweaks.

If you like seeing UK players get beat off the dribble, get drove on for and-1s, and wide open 3's being hit. It's a great watch.
Honestly, I’d watch it. The defense was non-existent but Kam and Mo played great.
These games are so useless AS LONG AS YOU ARE PLAYING WELL AGAINST GOOD TEAMS. Village, your point on the 10 pt Columbia game is spot on. You can't expect players to care or get up for these games. However, if you give effort on the level of the Gonzaga game against real teams and then still play scrubs close, then you fire the coach. Not there with Pope, he gets the leash long as we get more IU and SJU type efforts.
I've gone from hating this team to being intrigued on how far JQ can carry them. Did NOT expect him to be so game changing in his first game back from injury, against SJU no less. Sky's the limit for the kid, and really a truly elite talent.

I was at work and didn't even know the game was on and tuned in. thought to myself, holy ****, it's 2nd half and we are semi struggling against Bellarmine? another Lousyville team?!? no way!!! but then i remembered when Kenny Sky Walker came to my high school and so did Randy Savage! made me feel good and i forgot about it!

Yeah that was my main issue with the game. No resistance to anything.
It’s just a frustrating game. A lot of good things and lots of bad things.
I think part of it was just the matchup too? He was asked to play out on the perimeter a lot since their 5 shoots a ton of 3s. Didn't look as good out guarding the 3 compared to the beast he looks like playing down low.
We need Chandler in my honest opinion. He can be very good off the bench. He’s starter level when he’s good. Idk what has been up with him recently, but we need him back to his first 7-8 games level.
If we play like this against SEC teams, we will lose many.
He made some mind boggling defensive mistakes today. He wasn’t the only one for sure, but I watched at least 5-6 guys drive right past him today with no resistance.
This is the main issue, it leads to a lot of running back short handed, combined with low intensity defense and easy transition buckets.
That was a huge concern of mine today. I believe it was a lack of effort, but if we can’t stop Bellarmine off the dribble we are in trouble in the SEC.
He could be such a good player with a little strength and refinement in shot selection and passing.
I agree, every time we play fast we look so much better. That’s how we beat IU.

I can see why someone would be more disappointed with this team than that one. Both were over hyped and rated but that team dealt with some strange stuff all year. Covid, nobody at games, weird travel stuff. Just a weird year for every sport.
