To be fair that was their first true road game and against a top-20 opponent. I wouldn’t say anything has “changed”, any more than Kentucky changed from Ohio State to Florida. Teams have a clunker now and again. It happens. The UK women aren’t South Carolina, but they are very good. 13-1 and 2-0 in the SEC so far, with both conference wins by 20+ points over teams that were a combined 27-2.

The men’s team looked pretty bad against Ohio State. Not sure your point? Look at the whole seasons body of work. Not just one game.

Also, Women’s ball is what it is. No there aren’t high flying dunks, but if you watch it for what it is it can be entertaining. This team is night and day better than the last couple of years. I get tired of people saying “My son’s 7th grade Catholic school B team could beat these girls” nonsense. That’s not the point.

I love watching a lot of women's sports. Some sports I like watching the women more than the men. Basketball isn't one of them. In fact, women's basketball is one of my least favorite sports to watch. There's something about it that's just awkward, uncoordinated, rushed, disorganized, etc. You don't see that at all in women's volleyball.

Or softball...I like watching softball. Very entertaining.

Agree. I really like women's softball (better than baseball by far), soccer, volleyball, tennis, golf and even track and field. Most of those as much or more than watching the men.

I just don't know what is about basketball, but women look like fish out of water trying to play it for the most part.

This is how you have to do it.. can't keep hiring from the coaching carousel if you want to compete. Both Kentucky Mens and Womens were smart enough (and fortunate enough), to land coaches on the rise, in both Kenny Brooks and Mark Pope. Try and get that next great coach before someone else does.. and it seems both programs have pulled it off.

You aren’t a kidding said from the beginning he was a great hire the last few games these girls are firing on all cylinders. 13-1 they have already bypassed the last 2 seasons win totals. They had only won 12 games last year and 12 games the year before that. 2-0 in the SEC Mississippi State was no slouch they were 13-1 when UK beat them 91-69. Vandy was 14-1 prior to yesterday’s game and UK went into Nashville and whooped them yesterday 96-78. Considering we have only had a rotation of 7-8 players all season and lost those 2 really talented players before the season even started. Kenny Brooks is looking like a coach of the year candidate!

Wow, that was a whole lot of assumption from my single sentence post lol.

I saw a couple of games early, then the UNC game and based on what I saw I'm shocked to hear they put up 96 pts, so I was legitimately asking what has changed to spark the offense.

I’m guessing practice and a roster full of new players starting to become more cohesive at the right time?

Yeah, but we know Pope isn’t going anywhere, UK is in his blood and DNA. Brooks however could parlay this job into a bigger opportunity if one of the traditional women's power programs ever has an opening.

Can a women’s coach be a championship level coach for a men’s team and vice versa?

I think the hope here is that Brook's can make Kentucky Womens team into a potential top-tier program. The good thing is that it's not like there's any real "blue bloods" in womens.. with the exception of Uconn, Tennessee and.. I'm not really sure who else. South Carolina has it's coach. Geno is at Uconn.

And Kentucky will have the money and fans to create a top program, if Brooks is able to do it. I'd like to think this could be similar to Dawn Staley taking South Carolina into the spotlight.

Don’t see why not, just never really been tried. Think it would be pretty difficult for a female coach to lead a men’s team to championship level, mainly because I think recruiting and player respect would be difficult, but in the right circumstances, it’s not out the realm of possibility, but it would have to be a Pat Summitt in her heyday type personality.

I doubt it, the women’s game is totally different. I always wanted to see Pat Summit or Geno give it a shot at a legit university in their primes to see how they would do. I mean at its core basketball is basketball so it’s feasible, but on court play is vastly different as well as scouting I’d think.

Shots fell. That’s honestly about it. They are still down a couple players who suffered injuries before the season began, so depth is an issue. I don’t know if or when those players will return this season. Right now I think they only go about 8 deep, but when they are hitting from outside they are a handful.

Hassett had 6 threes yesterday and even Strack hit one late. Almost all of them can hit from three except for one or two.

Geno’s got to be nearing the end of his run, as for Women’s blue bloods, Notre Dame, Stanford, Baylor and South Carolina are all teams with multiple championships under their belts.

It’s bc it’s the women’s sport that emphasizes the gap in athleticism of the genders the most.

Softball is a shrunken field so it speeds the game up. I enjoy it.

Volleyball is a small court and the ball pops around quick so it’s highly entertaining. Same can be said for Tennis.

Gymnastics is explosive


Soccer is more endurance based combined with strategy with burst of athletic feats. So the men’s/women’s game look relatively similar even if in direct competition the men’s team would dominate

The statement about the games looking relatively the same on the surface can be said for golf, track and field etc.

Women’s basketball doesn’t even look like the same sport. The sport would have been served to continue playing on the high school sized court at minimum so they cover end to end quicker; if you aren’t going to consider lowering the rim to 9ft so you can make the sports resemble each other. However, I love this university and I want us to win at anything we compete at so I’m happy that they are now a legitimate contender and putting a relatively good product on the court.
