I heard Vanetti on the radio a week or so ago, and he said that we'd be lucky to win 4...

He said that our defense sucked last year and we lost a bunch from that unit.

At first I was kinda down because he has a point, but then I realized it may be addition by subtraction.

Either way, our young talent had better be strong this year or we're gonna give up 35 points a game!

I'd say that 4 wins is a given though so your money is safe.

We replaced experience with better talent. We shall see how it turns out.

Our defense won't be any worse than last year. Our offense will be better. We will be better.

Tony Vanetti is the LAST person alive you should listen too.

About anything.

Vanetti is great and although he hates UK, he's not a hater. i think if you ask him honestly he'd say 4-5. Which isn't to far from where I am.

Sounds like a fair bet. If uk upsets Southern Miss then four is possible. If uk loses that game just go on and say double or nothing on the basketball game.

It took late miracles to beat EKU.
There were some high school teams that could have EKU.
Southern Miss is a much much better team than EKU.
Yes UK should beat them, but then again we should have beat Vandy and a couple others last season but we didn't.
Don't put UK in the win column until the horn sounds.

If I didn't know any better, I'd say that's a good thing. Hell, we were better defensively last year than we were in 2014 by about 4 points per game (and the passing defense was much, much better), and we weren't even "lucky" to win 5 in 2014. We should have won 5 that year. We underachieved last year, being a play away in 4 different games (which would have made Kentucky a 9 win team).
You'll be hard pressed to make me believe that bringing back one of the most talented young secondaries in the nation, bringing in some good, experienced talent in the linebacking corps, and bringing back defensive linemen who played a lot of reps, will be worse than either of the defensive units these past 2 seasons. Plus, add in the fact that the offense should be exponentially better based on experience alone, nevermind having a better playcaller that runs an offensive scheme that fits the players that UK has, and UMM is pretty much going to rob this guy of 100 bucks.

First of all, I don't think there is a lot of difference in our talent levels. The main difference is they have allowed guys to transfer to them who were already experienced after they were dismissed from their previous school for a variety of reasons (I'm glad we don't do that). Secondly, I don't think our defense was the reason we didn't do as well as we did! Between dropped balls by the WRs and a lack of positive play calling by the OC, I think our offense or lack of offense cost us three maybe four games! Typically, by the end of those games, our defense was sucking air and, therefore, was ineffective. For example, I don't think Jackson does what he did against us if he had been playing against a fresher UK defense. Thirdly, a more efficient UK offense would have kept Jackson off the field and, thus, would not have been as effective. Fourthly, for the players we lost on defense, they have been replaced by better, more athletic, more talented players even though they may be less experienced. There is no replacement for talent. I don't care how experienced a player is. Besides, as far as Louisville fans are concerned (even Vanetti), that's more wishful thinking on their part. I'm still glad Petrino is not our coach even with his recent success at Louisville. I still have friends who are Louisville graduates and /or Louisville fans who are still embarrassed that Louisville hired Petrino and they are disappointed with Jurich and his lack of integrity for hiring Petrino and allowed Pitino and Clint Hurtt to continue coaching at U of L. I still think we have a chance at beating Louisville this year. We should have won that game two years ago as well as last year's game. At any rate, I am really looking forward to football season!

Great post!

I definitely see all of your points and agree with a lot of it.

I think that there are a lot of unknowns with our team...

I honestly wouldn't be shocked if we went 4-8 or 8-4.

Hopefully we'll at least make a bowl this year because I absolutely think we'll score a lot of points this season!

I like Vanetti...

He's about as cool a UofL fan as you'll find in this whole town, of course I'm biased because I've known him for years.

Youth (freshmen and sophomores becoming experienced sophomores and juniors), red shirts becoming eligible, transfers becoming eligible (i.e. Courtney Love, Greg Hart, De'Niro Laster), recruiting (consistent top thirty to forty recruiting classes over last four years), last players recruited by Joker Phillips graduating, etc. Need I go on?

Dave Jennings, Drew Deener, Howie Lindsay, etc...

Those dudes are turds!

Vanetti ain't that bad.

I have more problem with guys who try to sell themselves as neutral like Lachlan than those guys. As long as I know they are biased I'm ok. I think Jennings is annoying and Lindsay is a fat loser but that has little to do with their UK takes.

Everything you mentioned gives a player experience. My post was about ability and talent. Maybe you misunderstood my question. Everybody agrees Joker wasn't recruiting SEC level talent and Coach Stoops has been. As awful as the defense looked at times. If Coach Stoops troops are superior Athletically and talent wise. How come they couldn't beat out Joker's guys?

That's a dumb bet from a dumb fan. I don't see any way UK could regress this year and only win 4 games. I'm not a Stoops believer but even I can't see that happening. 5 or 6 wins seems to be highly likely.

Basically for UK to only win 4 games they would have to lose every game they'll be a sizeable underdog in (UF, Bama, UT, UGA, UL) and only win 1 of the toss up games (South Carolina Missouri, Mississippi State, Vandy) and that seems even less likely when you consider 3 of the 4 toss up games are in Lexington and South Carolina will be bringing in the worst team they've had in recent memory.

Another idiotic statement from a UL fan troll.

"If Coach Stoops troops are superior Athletically and talent wise. How come they couldn't beat out Joker's guys?"

Chris Westry took over Fred Tillers spot last year as a freshman

Seriously. You're probably the dumbest UL troll, I've ever seen.

1 guy. I'm just trying to figure out why UK's defense is going to be so much better because they lost so much off it from last year.

Derrick Baity also took over at secondary midway through the season. This was a young defense at a lot of spots last year. Courtney Love comes in at Lb'r. Naquez Pringle and Meant along with a svelt Matt Elam give me hope at d-line. Denzel Ware is another year older
