Great young men who are leaving Louisville with their degrees in hand. Both were US Army All Americans and Coach Strong recruits who never quite lived up to their potential. Keith Brown lost a step due to a knee injury. He was only a part time starter at outside linebacker - the starters when healthy were Devonte Fields and Treyvon Young. Even having lost a step, he's still a good solid linebacker.
The biggest problem I had with Keith was that there were times he seemed to be slow to recognize what the offense was running. As an example, in our game against Clemson, the Tigers used a "trick" formation that had an offensive tackle split out wide of the tight end. Brown ended up attempting to cover the offensive tackle on a play that resulted in Clemson throwing for a TD to the tight end. Had Brown understood what was going on more quickly, he would have rushed the quarterback instead of covering an offensive lineman who didn't need to be covered.
Dawson-Brents is bigger than Keith Brown, and played some as a down lineman for us. Primarily a back-up defensive end in a 3-4 or 4-3 configuration. His problem was being stuck behind some really good defensive linemen, most of whom will be returning.
I could see both turning into very good players for WKU, assuming there is more playing time available for them.
