The guy is a definitely not very corporate savvy. But not sure that makes him a racist.
It really isn't a case of lack of savvy - in this climate, it was just stupid. However, that's not the animating spirit here. He simply cannot understand how he's being persecuted for the prior remark, and instead of just saying he's sorry or saying nothing, he's got to point out how others have said much worse and suffered not at all. That's what was driving it - the sheer injustice of it all in his head.

However, I suppose I'm naive to think there's a difference between calling someone that word, versus telling a story and quoting someone else who said the word. Stupid, but not sinister.

But it doesn't matter. He can't unsay what he said.

I’d be okay with Papa J putting a hit out on the person who leaked that he said it. Same as I would if LeBron James said “cracker-*** honkies” during a private conversation and some douche leaked that to the press. I hate that crap. (Hyperbole all around, but you get the picture).

I’m done arguing, we’re not changing each other’s minds and that ok.

Interesting recent development is UL players tweeting about not wanting to play in Papa Johns stadium. We’ll see where it goes.

But that aside, chances are John was not given the memo regarding non use of the word even in the most intended innocuous fashion.

Ridiculous. Let him apologize, make restitution and turn this to a positive. This virtue signaling run amuck is affecting real lives

As expected: UL will remove Papa John name from the stadium.

Does UK have any buildings with the name on it?

It’d be nice to get a fresh update on who is allowed to say that word and who isn’t.

Pretty simple. If you're white, don't say it. If for any reason, you feel like you shouldn't say it, don't.

"If you don't know, now you know...."- Biggie

See what I did there?

As soon as I heard the athletes were whining, I knew they’d cave and remove the name.

I hate liberals!!

I did like that the UL President decided to continue to do business with them. People seem to forget that there are over 1000 employees of Papa John in Ky. They said nothing wrong but have to pay the price.

What could UL possibly do?

This is a moronic social justice warrior lynch mob drummed up by people who dont like John Schnatter. They are under contract with Papa Johns, and John Schnatter quoting Colonel Sanders would never in a million years equate to any sort of conduct that could get them out of those contracts with Papa Johns.

People are virtue signaling and pissed off over things that didn't happen. That's it. They got their scalp. Was never about racism or getting the Papa Johns name off the stadium.

I hope that John either demands to get his money back or enforces his contract to keep his name of the stadium. According to the CJ, the stadium can't be renamed unless Papa John OKs it. He has done so many good things for UL and the city of Louisville but now that will all be forgotten. He will be forever tarred for using a word he shouldn't have. The punishment doesn't seem to fit the offense.

I don't think he will have much choice but to okay the name change. He already looks bad, how much worse would it get for him if he forced the name to stay the same? At least for a little while until this dies down and goes away.

Its John's choice if he wants to take the heat. If I were him, I would ask for my donation back from UL and then turn around and give it to traditionally black colleges like Kentucky State and Grambling. It would be a good public relations move and give the finger to UL for throwing him under the bus.

The Papa Johns, Inc. name is not coming off anything as a result of the former CEO of the company quoting Colonel Sanders on a conference call with a marketing consultant.

By even discussing it, everyone is proving his point.

Colonel Sanders could call black people n*ggers abed his marketing team could sell chicken. He quotes Colonel Sanders to make the point how incompetent they are and his marketing team leaks it to cause this shitstorm.

It's kinda funny that they think the name cardinal stadium, a name connected to strippers, hookers and paying players, is any better. [roll]

So why is it coming off then? Because it's already been announced that they are removing it. Honest question here.

Welp I guess the lunatic fringe beats logic, reason and sanity once again. Guess I shouldn't be surprised by that University. Hopefully Schnatter tells them to put the name back up.

Maybe next they'll change the name of their basketball stadium bearing the name of the company founded by the guy Schnatter was quoting.

Nice world we live in. A man can live his life and do everything right. He’s successful, hardworking, responsible, generous to others, pays his bills on time, isn’t a burden on society, then he says one word and his life and reputation is shot. On the other hand, other people are always irresponsible. They have kids they can’t afford. They don’t work. They committ numerous crimes. They’re total failures in every measurable way possible. They live off of hard working tax payers like Papa John. The difference is they don’t have a word they can say that totally ruins them.

Makes a lot of sense.
