He's finished with his graduate assistant years so he would have to be hired full time. I doubt Pope can afford to use a coach spot on an unproven guy yet.

The NCAA added a position to allowed coaching staff......can't remember what it was called.....where you could basically have "unlimited" positions of that type.

Dang it......just can't remember what it was.

Special assistant to the head coach, maybe? I think I've seen that title used on the football side before. That is Eddie Gran's title right now.

He was just an undergraduate assistant. Not a GA. I’m not sure if he’s graduated from undergrad yet or not.

You know who would have been a great fit for Pope's offense?

Tyler Ulis.

I mean that's kind of cheating I don't see a system that Ulis wouldn't have been a benefit to.

He should stay. Since Cal took his assistants other than Welch to Arkansas, replaced him with Brad. Wouldn't follow him there if I were Ulis.

I think you hire Ulis if you want anyone off our last team, and to bridge the gap between the dudes that played here under Cal.
Honestly I'd make a pitch to Wagner as well if he's sticking around college.

I know it would be a longshot but Pope's coaching has me questioning what else we could have seen out of some of the guys last year outside of the obvious Z and Reed.

Basketball has them too. Assistant to the head coach is the official title for Scott Padgett's role at Mississippi State. He primarily breaks down film for Chris Jans. This title is one that Ulis could fill if Pope wants to retain him on the staff. Ulis is a young guy that would be great for player-relations and would be familiar with some of the guys like Burks, Z & Thiero if they decide to withdraw from the portal. Tyler being in their shoes within the last 10 years definitely has its advantages.

Same as Brad last year for Vanderbilt. Director of on court relations. Whatever the hell that means.

I could see in 20 or so years Ulis being introduced and getting this kind of warm welcome if his coaching career takes off.

Maybe you're thinking of those consultant jobs. I think that was what it was called. Saban had a number of former head/assistant coaches with that title that didn't count toward the total you're allowed.

I don’t see Pope/MB allowing any part of Cals staff being involved going forward, Ulis included as much as we all like him.

Ulis and Cal were in Phx together at the same time Cal was making deals with the Arkansas Chicken man. Tbf, Ulis may have been totally in the dark about that, but point being they are close.

Pretty evident the admin wants to create a new culture at UK and turn the page on the Cal era.

Ulis would be a perfect fit. He's proven. Pope gets four coaches. Plus, we need a guy who can bridge Cal's NBA guys to the UK program right now.
