This is unbelievable. CNN's Fareed Zakaria had a monologue about liberals that could've been written by the most conservative among us.
He began talking about how various political dignitaries were honored to give commencement addresses to various universities. He then went on to lament how Mike Pence and Betsy DeVos were treated so poorly when they gave speeches. He said, "American universities these days seem committed to every type of diversity except intellectual diversity. Conservative voices and views, already a besieged minority, are being silenced entirely. The campus thought police have gone after serious conservative thinkers like Heather MacDonald and Charles Murray, as well as firebrands like Milo Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter. Some were disinvited, others booed and intimidated."
He then goes on to give a little lesson in free speech. He explained that "at the heart of the liberal tradition of the Western world is freedom of speech. From the beginning people understood that this means protecting speech with which you disagreed."
Zakaria quoted Supreme Court Justive Oliver Wendell Holmes, who said, ""if there is any principle of the Constitution that more imperatively calls for attachment than any other, it is the principle of free thought—not free thought for those who agree with us but freedom for the thought that we hate." However, Zakaria points out that this very basic American concept escapes liberal college students. "The Left believes they are so morally superior they cannot bear to hear an idea with which they disagree." He called it the "anti-intellectualism of the left" and went on to say that liberals "believe they are tolerant, but they often aren't."
Wow. You might expect something like this to be said from Rush Limbaugh, but not broadcast on CNN. Maybe college leftists will pay attention, before it's too late to fix the ever-yawning gap between us.
