Being K's big buddy didn't help Boeheim much. Maybe Roy thinks it will help.

I don't understand why they are, why wouldn't UNC fans boo Duke's coach before they play them?

Didn't Duke show a lot of respect for Dean Smith passing , they joined in prayer at mid court during their game . If Duke can do what they did then I don't see why UNC can't reciprocate with a gesture of their own . Different circumstances but bury the hatchet and extend an olive branch type stuff .

The era of millennials and political correctness. I'm supposed to buy that UNC**/Duke is the greatest rival in cbb? The last game at Duke, there was a pregame slurpfest for Dean, and now there's a slurpfest for K at the Dean Dome.

Rivalry my ***, more like kissing cousins.

C'mon really? How do you think the Rupp crowd would react if they tried to "honor" Pitino for winning the championship at Lil Bro? It wouldn't go over well, and it shouldn't...this is sports rivalries not kumbaya moments around a campfire. The Dean Smith example is a bad one because there is something very different about posthumous ceremonies...

Agreed, way different set of circumstances. How in the world do you compare the death of a legendary coach with that of accomplishments of a living coach of your biggest rival?

It's nice of them but still feels a little weird. I'm sure it was motivated by how Duke handled Smith's passing. I don't blame their fans for not wanting it though, especially with some recruits at the game.

Why are either of you telling me it's a different situation when I already stated it was different in my post ? Did you guys know this thread was about Duke and UNC ?

This is bad but I agree with the UNC fans, let ESPN honor K if they think they need to do so,just worry about beating the Dukies

I've been saying for years that the rivalry between Dook and Chapel Hell is NOT equal to the hatred between Bama/Auburn or UK/Loserville. It's way more "civilized".

Who are we to talk? Now UNC fans know how many of the Big Blue feel. Going into Rupp Arena and seeing the name of your rivals coach hanging next to our legends is a bitter pill to swallow.

UNC will be joining UK as fools but I doubt seriously they put his name up in the rafters. Only we do that type of thing for a hated rival

I thought the Dean Smith thing at Duke was stomach-turning.

Yes - on the surface it was a "touching tribute" but I think the motivations underlying it were a little more base. We'd all just just sat through a week of sports talk shows lauding Dean Smith and portraying him as a cross between Mahatma Gandhi and Jesus Christ, and that's fine, but it really did start to wear on me.

Whatever - it was North Carolina's week in the sun after a rough two years of bad pub, an opportunity to reflect on better times. Dean Smith was their legend and their beloved and revered coach. As such - the Duke tribute thing just struck me as Duke trying to steal a little bit of the spotlight from UNC. It's kind of like the arsehole cousin who suddenly wants to be your best friend when you win the lottery.

As such, if I was a UNC fan I would be apoplectic about the K tribute. The guy received a month's worth of simpering worship before and after the accomplishment and now more? It amazes me as well that K is such an arrogant tool that he just continues to soak it all up. You'd think at some point he's get embarassed with it and say, please - just stop.

Just ridiculous pandering on Roy Williams part, and illustrative of how clueless he is sometimes.
