Have you noticed the red helmets being worn in practice have the black stripe?

unrelated.

The strips are put on and they players have to earn the right to have them removed. Once they are removed it means that they are ready to play in games.

It is something that was done at OSU and Ash brought it over here.

I don't know, I wouldn't read too far into it with the red helmet on that poster. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it, but I wouldn't get my hopes up

At 3 p.m. on that memorable afternoon, the 50 combatants and about 100 spectators gathered on the field. Most of the assemblage sat on a low wooden fence and watched the athletes doff hats, coats and vests and use suspenders as belts. To distinguish themselves from the bareheaded visitors, 50 Rutgers students, including players, donned scarlet-colored scarfs which they converted into turbans.

Why Scarlet and not Orange:
Back in '61 at a Touchdown club meeting a elder alum told me the story of his Uncle who was an upperclassman on the first FB team and it was his responsibility to procure a 1/4 bolt of orange cloth from a local haberdashery. Orange in honor of "William of Orange". They only has this real bright red, they took it and later research uncovered that William of Orange family's colors were Red. So that is why were are Scarlet!

Rutgers was considering using orange around the mid-1870s. Princeton used orange and black badges for its baseball team around 1867 or 1868 but sorta abandoned the use of the colors. Then they heard Rutgers was considering a switch from scarlet and around 1875 Princeton made orange and black their colors. Their football jerseys in 1876 were black with an orange "P" on the front. They later added orange stripes near the wrists and at the end of the decade a sportswriter allegedly wrote they played one of their game "like Tigers." And a nickname was born.

The white uniforms and black uniforms look fine except for that rubbery material on the shoulders that Nike loves using for some reason, but I have yet to see a gray uniform in any sport that looks good.

Texas tech, A&M, and Northwestern's wounded warrior uniforms also were very cool grey options.

Sorry, I didn't like any of those. I think gray is just not a good color for sports uniforms, and even moreso when it's not even one of the schools' colors.

I hope our pants have striping & aren't plain boring pants & I hope the striping on the shoulders & pants has black, white & red in it.

I'd much prefer something more like these UL or Georgia concept unis if we're going classic, but with block #s & I'd like to keep the battlescarred helmets & use them with the white helmets like we've been doing:

We wore black pants in 2000:

It's interesting how much opinions differ on what makes a nice uniform. I suppose it isn't surprising though. The only sure thing is that not everyone will be happy, no matter what they look like. And someone is likely to be a comical level of upset by new uniforms, and that's just good fun.

I would prefer a clean and simple design but different enough that we don't look like Neraska/Wisconsin/OSU/Indiana etc.

I really liked this:

but something about the white set seemed too plain, especially compared to what I think our best white look is:

As nice as I think the current whites are, the striping, fonts, and overall design is just all over the place. It's like they took all the knight-theme gimmicks (sword stripes, sword numbering, battle scars, chrome) and forced them onto the design. This look is going to look dated. Think about it. I once loved this uniform:

Now those Oregon uniforms scream "late 90s/early 00s".

Instead of going the classic route like ND, USC, PSU, Bama, etc., I recommend going with a modern classic template:

Nearly 15 years later, these unis still look fantastic:

Instead of the metallic brown of pewter, use a metallic version of gunmetal like OSU had in this alternate set (note: LOVE those pants too! Remove the helmet stripe (put a Block R on it), remove the sleeve stripe (put our Knight/burning battleship logo there), and outline the numbers in black and this is pretty much the look I'm advocating:

Absolutely true. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited for the new look, but I'm a uniform nerd. But if it's something I don't like, I won't go nuts. I didn't like the last ones but I still loved the team

The 1867 February Targum mentioned the colors chosen by both the undergraduates of Rutgers College and the newly formed Scientific School (later Cook College of Rutgers University) were yellow, blue and white.

Interestingly, the colors for the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, which shares a common heritage with Rutgers, are still these yellow, blue and white colors.

I think they have recently developed a more modernized two-tone blue logo as well.

Any thoughts on using the 250 logo in the uniforms somewhere?
Instead of a 250, I'd like to see "1766" and even "1869" (for football) become part of our unis. Like the helmets.. maybe R on one side and 17Q66 on the other.. announcers might feel compelled to explain it and thus we get the 250 years mention while also showing that we pre-date the United States itself.

I can't wait until that contract with High Point Solutions is up.

Good foresight by the HPS team to get their name on the stadium when they did - can't knock them for that. We also happily took their money at the time. Also looking forward to seeing what the next naming rights deal has to offer, though.

Interesting that the official state colors are blue and buff which may have something to do with it.

For me, it's what comes across well as they play the game. That's why the "R" on the helmets stand out all the time as a "classic" look. Iconic and easy to digest and a great representative logo for the university. In the past, when the helmets sported a knight's head outline, or a knight on a horse, or "NJ Rutgers" it always seemed too busy or blurry to appreciate when they're all moving around. You would appreciate the artwork more if you were staring at it in a photo rather than wondering what that thing was on the side of the helmet when the game was on. How it comes across to game-viewing fans is just as important (maybe more so) than the artwork itself.

The same goes for the rest of the uniform look. You don't want to be bland but you don't want to look like the advertisements all over race cars either. It's always an argument over what's "just right."

Soon my friends. Today is the last day of Spring Practice and tomorrow is the Spring Game, the new uniforms reveal should happen this weekend or next week.

I only read at the end of spring practice but no dates or times were given.
