Maybe he doesn't think we have enough true leaders. But if Coach Frost wants the players to be accountable, maybe bringing the unity council back would help. Especially since it was something he knows about personally.

I believe he said they will in the future. Problem with doing it now is that the unity council will only help if there’s a culture that allows it to work. There are guys that get it right now but until those guys step up and hold others accountable, you won’t find out who your guys are that can be beneficial from a unity council standpoint.

The council makes itself...this isn't a bible study or committee that is arbitrarily thrown together. When the team has the right guys the council will appear. The danger of a council, or blackshirts, or anything that shows leadership is the coach gets caught having to play favorites once they "choose" leaders. Think Corey Mckeon...he was anointed as a team leader in 2006, then showed terrible leadership skills, but the staff was stuck having elevated him and he came out publicly about his anger at the staff. Once a staff has a group of "favorites" those guys become the models for the rest of the team, good and bad. So they better be real dudes because you can't "practice" for adversity.

Makes sense. Until you get players to understand what is expected how can you get them to be leaders. The cream will rise to the top eventually. Do it too soon and you could have gotten bad apples on the unity council and that would have been worse and defeat the purpose. Coaches have to learn who's who on the team. It seems to be a weekly learning process.
