Collins has brought NU back to the Kevin O'Neil days.

Pitiful performance.

Worse. Total disgrace!! I guess being offensive is in vogue (performance wise)?but offense is a foreign language that our revenue sports cannot comprehend

I am going to have a lot more time this winter. Pathetic. I expected a rough year but not this.

Yep, if Collins ability as a coach hasn’t been questioned yet, it should be now. A team completely unprepared for a season opener against basically a D2 team. Unacceptable and Phillips has to wonder what the hell is going on with both revenue sports.

Do those among you closer to the program than I am have the sense that Collins knows what he's doing? I don't have an axe to grind - it's a sincere question.

Good question. I’m not close with the hoops program. All I see are players that had power 5 offers who look like they have no idea what they’re doing. Embarrassing.

It’s pretty clear that Collins can’t coach offense. Even at NU’s best it was pound-pound-pound and hope a floater goes in.

I am not close to the program but I have eyes.

He seems to be good at recruiting and horrible at coaching offense. We used to have a coach terrible at recruiting and good at coaching offense. Maybe one day we will get it right?

The problem tonight was less offense than defense. 1 steal and 1 blocked shot against a team of Merrimack's size. That was the worst NU loss I have witnessed, and I've been watching this team since 1985.

We have some talent so watching tonight sort of puts the spotlight on the ability of Collins to coach and it isn’t looking good. At times it seemed they had no idea how to attack a zone. The biggest concern to me was how bad we looked on d. We had a pretty big size advantage yet allowed them to score a lot going to the basket- something we had no interest in doing on the offensive end (except maybe Spencer).

I don’t know if he’s necessarily got talent on that roster, either. How many of those guys look like they’d have a prayer at earning minutes on any other not-Nebraska or Rutgers conference team?

It’s not ncaa tourney talent but it should be way more than enough to beat a team that was Div II last year. The point is Collins doesn’t seem to know how to maximize what we do have on the roster.

Yeah, I mean I think that’s undisputed. It’s Year 7, so he really doesn’t have any excuses left for a game like that.

still, it’s early. They might look like a completely different team in January.
