7pm first pitch. Our first mid-week road game of the season. WKU always gives us a battle, especially when we play at their place. Pretty important game as we look to stay on the right side of the NCAA tourney bubble.

Kian Vorster getting his first start for the Cards. UofL drew a one out walk in the first, but did not score. WKU has blitzed Vorster for 4 runs on 5 hits and an error with just 1 out so far in the bottom of the first. McDonnell has already made one mound visit, covering his mouth while he chewed out his whole infield.

Vorster does not retire a batter (both outs he recorded were runners caught stealing). He leaves with 2 outs, 4 runs in, and the bases loaded. Jake Schweitzer now on trying to limit the damage.

Zion Rose not in the lineup for the 3rd straight game, after being replaced by Jax Hisle in game 1 of the UNC series. Recurrence of his ankle injury perhaps?

Still 4-0 Tops through 2 innings.

Cards pick up 2 runs on just 1 hit, drawing 2 walks and one hit by pitch, plus a wild pitch. Now trailing just 4-2 in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Schweitzer gives way to Nick Ballard, who records just one out while giving up a walk and a hit. He’s replaced by Jack Brown, who gives up one hit and one of Ballard’s runs, before getting out of the inning. 5-3 Tops heading to the 5th.

Okay, you don’t see that often! MIchael Peter comes on to relieve Jack Brown, but then Jack Brown comes on to relieve Michael Peter without Peter throwing a single pitch.

Still 5-5 in the bottom of the 6th.

Brown walks the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the 6th, then finally does give way to Peter Michael.

Okay, Peter Michael has some great stuff, but he’s just maddening. He strikes out the side, but before he does, he gives up a wild pitch, a walk, an infield single kept in the infield on a great play by Alicea, and then a Griffin Crain error in left field allows WKU to take the lead 6-5.

Some UGLY baseball by the Cards. We give up a triple, (against Peter) then a hit by pitch (by Ethan Eberle!), stolen base (Cards didn’t fall for the double steal), 2 run double (against Jake Bean), a single, a bizarre throwing error by our catcher (Nugent) resulting in a third run, and then an RBI double. Tops have broken this one open 10-5 going to the 8th.

Cards have 3 errors in this game, and have been outhit 15-5.

10-5 Toppers is the final. Cards definitely earned this L with bad fielding and ineffective pitching. Hopefully we have a better showing when WKU comes to Louisville on April 14th.

Rather embarrassing loses to WKU and Morehead.

Morehead I will agree, but WKU is a pretty good team. They beat Indiana 2 out of 4 and were competitive at UK (13-9 loss). They have a decent chance of winning CUSA.

It was definitely an embarrassing performance last night - didn’t do anything well.
