I’m sure Butler will have surgery at some point. They can nurse a labrum tear but it won’t heal on its own. Not for playing basketball 100% anytime soon anyway. Terrible injury luck for the Cats this year.
Is that what Butler has, a labrum tear?

Somewhat encouraging on Butler. Looks like he will be back at some point. Just becomes a matter of limiting the pain.

As for Robinson, news doesn't seem that great. Hopeful he comes back, but if he doesn't, sucks to know my lasting memory will be of Pope bringing him back off the bench when he was clearly injured against SCAR when UK was up by 20 points toward the end of the second half.

Honestly don’t expect either back, but hoping for the best
It sounds like we will get Butler at some point. That’s good because without him we are going to struggle to do much of anything the rest of the year.

The way it see it is we need him to be good. We need Jax to have a **** at being great.

Luckily I didn’t go into this season expecting to be great. :(

Looking forward to the potential of having Kerr back next year to be a team leader. Robinson and butler both have a chapter yet to play this year. Lets see them find that time to intertwine that book we all want to see through to the end

They are Kentucky's best two players. It is what it is. This was a stopgap season anyway. Fortunately, Kansas has not gained any games on us. Kentucky at least held serve and will make the tournament. It was not a disaster season. It would have been if Calipari had stayed, however.
And with the number of big wins we had it was a great showcase for what Pope’s system looks like for future recruits/transfers. We’ll be able to get away with hand waving the loses away based on the injuries too. We were able to get the freshmen some good experience too. Pretty successful campaign all things considered.

U still think Pope should be fired for that? Lol.

It just sucks because this season had the potential to be so much more than that. If this team were healthy they're probably a 2 seed in contention for a 1 seed. Pope's done an incredible job with this group so far, but there's only so much you can do when you're down you're top 3 PGs and had another key player out or hobbled for a third of the season.

Hopefully playing Perry and Noah out of necessity right now pays dividends the next few years to make up for what we missed out on this year.

Say it 100 more times so we can digest it as the first 100 times didn't quite do it.

What about this being/him saying this is Pope’s first year and a total transition year for UK do you not understand?

I'm with this guy.. it's about the final four weekend and being there is always the bar we want to set. Not for sure if my heart would be able to take a final four weekend but sure would like to test it out sooner rather than later.

Of course every single UK fan wants to get there but nobody that's sane thought we'd get there this year. Pope was supposed to take over late, throw a team together and go to the F4? lol.

Crazy, though, he may have actually done it if we were heathly all season and that would have been a ridiculous feat.

Butler is the more important piece. We need a PG. If we can get him back this time next week and win a game or two, that would be huge.

At this point, just keep Jrob out until the NCAAT.
Yeah. Butler HAS to be back or we are almost a lock for a first round exit.

While the Jax news isn’t the best it can be…I can also see the news of him shooting left handed as a semi-positive that he’s doing what’s necessary to stay in basketball shape and engaged with intent of playing (right handed) at some point. I doubt he’s shooting left handed as an attempt to learn well enough to be a 40% lefty…unless he was already pretty ambidextrous and knew he was a capable left shooter

From my viewpoint you take the money and run at this point. Don’t play either of those two a minute or Carr either until the NCAAT. If you’re lucky you may squeak by the first game without them even then.

Leaves a very very small chance, and in my opinion our only chance, to catch fire very late a make a deep run.

We’ve already proven we can’t do it without all those guys healthy. So why get them beat up more over the next seven to nine games just to tease ourselves?

You can't just expect them not to play for a month then come out and expect us to win. They have to get some game reps to get back into rhythm BEFORE the ncaa tournament.

We have to get a couple more wins and that won't be easy without both Butler and Robinson.
If we were to lose out and enter the tourney at 17-15, we're looking at a 10 seed at best or playing in Dayton.

In an ideal situation, absolutely.

Are we in an ideal situation?

I’ll stick with my recommendation verbatim because it’s our best possible chance of really overcoming the huge and continually recurring problem of not having those guys at all or having them half a game and then watching their status drop even more. In fact, I think my approach is our only realistic chance of actually overcoming that problem, as opposed to just giving lip service to overcoming that problem.

To do that I will take it on the chin that it involves the possibility—not the certainty—of bringing in rust and jitters that won’t go away in a single game when they come back.

None of the critical three has a foot injury so cardiovascular drop off isn’t even a factor for anyone except Carr, who shouldn’t even be doing cardio with his back. So it really is just rust and jitters for the other guys.

It’s not like we have very much time left before NCAAT anyway. They can get only one month worth of rusty.

In all cases you have to make hard choices and make the best of a bad situation. You are free to believe my approach takes away too many reps and too much rhythm.

That’s fine and I respect that.

I also happen to believe your approach takes away too much of their tiny remaining chances of getting mostly healed, which is absolutely life and death critical to us at this point in terms of any serious contention. I don’t think it’s a foolish choice. But I do believe it’s the wrong choice

I respect that opinion. For my money, if it makes the difference of our key guys being at 60% or being at 90%, I’d rather be a 10 seed. As a 10 seed, if we win two games—BAM—-suddenly we’re the 2 seed. There are no 2 seeds I fear this year on a neutral court if we are mostly healthy. It’s cool for you to see it your way though.
