Not to belabor the point…However…. My interpretation of split conference champions is….

Must finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd..AND/OR….have a .500 or better winning percentage…as long as the conference has at least 2 teams from each classification.

The “and/or”…. Really means..as long as the team finishes with .500 or better winning percentage…. That team is considered a conference champion and will be seeded among the rest of the champions before all the rest of the teams are seeded.

I’m not sure why the “1st, 2nd, and 3rd” statement …was necessary by the NCHSAA…I thinks it’s confusing!

Who knows?….they’re smarter than me!😉

You are correct. On the interpretation and that the NCHSAA is confusing 🙂

I understand that the .500 or better quote comes from the NCHSAA handbook but to me it's more generalized for all sports while the rules from the NCHSAA RPI rankings "2021-2022 NCHSAA Team Sports Contest Limitations, Playoff, and Seeding Format" right above the rankings seem more specific for football. Which is why my interpretation like I meationed on other treads is still you have to win the whole conference to be seated as a conference champion even in a split conference.
I could be wrong but the NCHSAA could have made it more clear I wish there was away to ask someone there.

Well looks like I am wrong high school ot came out with their playoff projections and they're doing 1 seed ( first automatic qualiters) and 2 seed ( second a q) and wildcards example they're giving Thomasville a 1 seed apparently as first place 1A in their split conference though didn't make much if any difference this thread he had them #5 the same as OT and another thread had them at #6.
Still say NCHSAA rules are as clear as mud

Seeding
Conference champions will be seeded before any other qualifying teams by RPI rating
All other teams will be seeded after the conference champions by RPI rating of the school, regardless of conference finish. It doesn't mention 1st seed 2nd seed or wildcards just conference champions then everyone else according to their RPI, they are as clear as mud but I assume OT knows more about it then I can.
Yep….the 2nds and wildcards are lumped together.

Isn't highschool ot identical to my updated bracket above? If so then I guess u have to finish top 3 and over 500.. Bc he has Thomas Jefferson 8 seed behind starmount. So the "or" should be removed from wording.

Right they are...
"Reminder: second-place teams are seeded amongst the wild-cards. The only difference between these teams and the wild-cards is that their spot is automatic even if they have one of the lower RPI scores."
But why bother with the terminology that since all but two schools are getting in?

I did notice an error on the 2a from HSOT….but it was corrected later this morning.
I’m puzzled by that as well….TJ should be above Starmount…..I think.😂😂

Well I didn't notice that so maybe they are going but my interpretation of the rules because TJ is the 1A leader of their conference but they seeded them as a wildcard if they went by the interpretation that you have an overall conference champion but the team with the best record in the other classification was also seeded with other conference champions then TJ would have been seeded higher then Starmount.

One things for sure things will likely shake up a bit after the next 8 days
Just did if Allegheny and Elkin has quit for the season. My guess is you have some other schools who will opt out of the playoffs giving some teams a bye.

Tj isn't seeded higher bc they finished 4th in conference behind...Shelby...burns...and east gaston...so they are lumped in with everyone else and starmount has higher rpi. Why I said must get rid of the "or" . Should read top 3 in conference "and" finish .500.
So is the ‘or’ supposed to be there? Because if so TJ would finish above .500 and seeded as a conference champion. 🤷🏻‍♂️

If TJ is seeded behind Starmount that would go with the interpretation of the rules that you have to win the whole conference not just your classification in a split conference to be seeded with other conference champions seeing that Starmount will be in second place in a straight 1A conference and TJ the best 1A in their split conference but didn't win it.

Old mountaineer u have to finish in top 3 of split conference tja will be 4th so therefore they r not a 1 seed. Mountain Island is gonna finish 2nd in there split conference but gets a 1 seed bc they r in top 3. Same with Thomasville 2nd place in a split conference. That's why Thomasville and Mic are 1 seeds and tja isn't.
But what about the ‘or’? TJ will finish above .500. That’s where the confusion is

NOTE: The highest finishing team in its half of a split conference must finish in 1st, 2nd, or
3rd place overall and/or have an overall winning percentage of .500 or higher in order to be
seeded as a #1.
Yeah that "or" is kinda confusing does make it sound like even if your 4th overall in your split conference as long as you're .500 you get a #1 seed not a wildcard. Now in the context of that sentence is overall referring to your overall record conference and non-conference or overall conference record?

Yep, I would think overall. But who knows. Just a lot of grey area there

Me too I'm on disability in my little one bedroom apartment don't get out much expect church , store , doctors , a football game etc. After 30+ years of working 6/7 days a week to nothing if I wasn't able to do my wood art I'd would go stir crazy.
Hey well we need to get up there and come see a game sometime. A friend of mine originally from down here has sons that play(ed) for Mitchell County. Been wanting to come up to Spruce Pine area. Beautiful country

I Appreciate it..my oldest daughter gets worried about me over doing it when I do two or three local craft shows and I know when I do sometimes i can't even stand the night of and on a walker a couple days but I told her I can't just quit trying to live some life. There's always worse a man I graduated with and played football with died of cancer last year and another one from that team has very serious heart problems and another friend a couple years older just got some bad cancer news so there always someone going though more.
