Kentucky is expected to rely heavily on three-point shooting this upcoming season. Here is a very simple comparison of three-point shooting percentages (ranked by number of attempts) from last season, as reported in sports-reference.com and respective school websites, just for general interest and reference. Nothing is included for the three (3) Freshmen from their high school seasons, as you can see, but they are ALL believed to be EXCELLENT shooters. GO CATS !!!

Our probable starting 5 of Butler, Kerr, Brea, Carr, and Williams have the higher % at every position besides Reeves at 44% and Kerr at 42%. Interesting, thanks for the post.

You're welcome. I probably should've included total minutes played and attempts per minute, but I think this is a good enough comparison for general reference. It is exciting to know that the three (3) incoming Freshmen are all expected to be outstanding shooters, as well.

One thought I had was that the new, high-volume, guys will probably get better looks than at their previous schools, owing to the sheer number of players we have with the ability to shoot from beyond the arc and the schematic emphasis. Threes by committee will be more the case for them this season, I suspect. Individual percentages may rise, accordingly, hopefully.

We have had only two (2) 50%+ 3pt shooters in the nearly 40 years of the 3pt shot (I'm not counting guys w/ < 10 attempts). So it is a rare occurrence!

Brea was pretty close though. Do I think he will duplicate that? No. But I think some other guys may improve theirs.

I went ahead and included total minutes played and 3-point attempts per minutes played ... Almonor, Robinson, Brea and Kriisa wil flat-out raise up !! Hopefully, the bigger stages and brighter lights will not affect their accuracy !! GO CATS !!!

One more really good shooter, either from the freshmen or another transfer, you would think our offense will be pretty solid. Then you think of all the stronger, older and experienced proven players along with having several great defenders compared to none last year makes you feel pretty good about the possibilities.

Last year we had 3 guys that were legitimate threat from 3: Reeves, Rob and Reed but didn’t play enough minutes together. Other 4 that were fair: Mitchell ( better when we played small ball and before injury) , Big Z ( not utilized properly) Thiero , and Edwards( got better towards the end) Remaining players were either poor shooters: Wagner, Bradshaw, Ugona or had a small sample: Hart , Burks.

Actually, I think Z’s debut performance from beyond the arc was atypical. He shot only 27% in his two (2) years of pro ball. We may have expected a little too much from him (and Bradshaw) from the arc.
Having said that, I thought Z underperformed in the paint and seemed uncomfortable there. He will need to improve and I suspect he will … just not for us.

Almonor, Robinson and Brea all averaged more 3-point attempts per minute of playing time than Dillingham, who lead us last year ... and I thought Dilly had a quick trigger. That really sticks out to me.
I hope they all understand that only one ball will be used during the game !!

Watch him against Edey in the ‘23 tourney. He held his own against a behemoth like we haven’t seen in sometime in college bball. Nobody he will have to guard will come close to that challenge.

Butler and Williams are absolute studs on defense.

Oweh isn’t that far behind.

Almonor and Garrison are very good defenders.

I think we can lock people down.

And there’s no way we will be as bad as we were last season.

Pope hand picking this team will tell you they should be team first. All of Pope's interviews have discussed that very fact. I am hoping his model he uses is flawless and we get a group that knows max they get is about 25 minutes in a game. That they have to play between 90 and 100% the whole time they are out there with constant movement. I really hope with the size at the 2 and 3 and 4 that we see some pressing and full court both ways.

This could be or has the possibility of being a fun, run and gun team like the 90's. Pitino would have loved to had this roster.

You shouldn't average percentages like that, but yes we will be a very good shooting team I expect.

No doubt we're going to shoot more 3's. Will the new team shoot as good are better, than they have? Probability is going to be higher imo. With experience and more shooters I'd think we'd have better chances of getting better looks. If our guards can get a substantial number of rebounds I think we will all be satisfied with the season we have.

Put good passers and good shooters together, it usually works out really well on the offensive end.

On paper, this is a well put together team.

The fact that Wagner played 3 more minutes than Dillingham did and he was out a couple games just blows my mind. Obviously Sheppard got all the minutes he could handle as did Reeves, but they all should have been around 1000 minutes.
