No way Swain would be anything below a 6 seed with a 9-2 record. With its only two losses to two top three or four teams in 1a. Now if we loose Friday then I would absolutely understand it.

Well if I'm understanding this right now if you say had a scenario were both Mitchell and Murphy went 1AA and Mitchell beats Avery, then you would have 6 teams..East Surry, Mt Airy, Mitchell, Polk, Murphy and Mtn island charter all ether 1st or 2nd place in thier conference and automatic qualifiers seeded before Swain who will be a at large team.

Pretty sure Polk will be seeded as an at large, the seeding process for split conferences changed some last year.

Polk will be an at large. The WHC effectively has 3 teams in the conference, so only the winner will receive an auto bid. Swain will finish no better than 3rd, and the SMC only has 2 auto bids, so assuming the rankings hold out, Robbinsville and Murphy will get the auto bids, and Swain will be seeded at large.

Your right in a split conference only the two top teams in each classification and the second team over all gets normatec bid.

In a split conference such as the yours, only the top 2A and the top finishing 1A are automatic qualifiers. All others are seeded as At Large bids based on max preps ranking. So Mitchell will be the automatic qualifier as the #1 1A and Polk and Avery will go in the playoffs as at large bids.

Article from highschool OT:
"For split conferences, the top team in each classification of the conference will receive an automatic bid. So, in a 3A/4A split conference, the top 4A team will get in automatically and the top 3A team will get in automatically, regardless of where they finish in the overall standings. That means if the first four teams in the overall conference standings are all 4A teams and the fifth team is a 3A team, then the 3A team gets in automatically. The one caveat is that the team must have an overall winning percentage of at least .500 or finish in the top three spots of the overall standings to be seeded as a conference champion. If that isn't the case, the team gets in, but is seeded as an at-large team. Additionally, if a team from the same classification finishes second in the conference standings, that team also gets in automatically. In the scenario where four 4A teams finish in the first four spots, the top two would get into the playoffs."

What is Mitchells enrollment? If it is 519, that website says 526 so it is off some. But if you add 529 + 8 from the early college you mentioned. Its within 1.....

We don’t count the early college students just to piss off one Robbinsville fan. Probably looking at between 500 to 505
Actually I believe they are counted by the school, then the dpi adjusts for ec, alternative school and drop outs. btango is the man for this stuff. Maybe he can chime in.

Highschool OT article:

"The NCHSAA will receive average daily membership numbers (ADMs) from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Once these numbers are received, the NCHSAA will make some adjustments to account for early colleges, academies and other special circumstances, then the numbers will be released to the public on the NCHSAA website. Sometimes there are small corrections that must be made after the numbers are released. This typically happens in the last couple weeks of the regular season."

Why do you big schools want to play in the 1a

I don't think us " big schools" really care where we play. The school system simply turns in the enrollment numbers and the the NCHSAA places us " big schools " where we should be. Not sure why you would care, not like Mitchell has the history of Robbinsville or whomever you are pulling for this week.

This year could be different but the most successful season Mitchell has had was at the 1aa level. Right now, in the west, I would have Mitchell behind Rville and Murphy if all small and behind ES, and even with Mt. Airy and Swain if big. And who knows with MICS, not sure if the Mitchell size could handle the pure speed. So overall not alot of difference in going big or small.

Guess we will wait as see how the " big schools " get accused of manipulating the system this year. Even though it could and would affect the overall school budget in a negative way.

I will say this, as outlandish as it sounds. There’s nobody in the west that plays with East Surry this year, probably not within 3 touchdowns if you want to be honest. It’s extremely painful being a bear fan and saying that , but they are a different animal. I’ve seen Murphy and swain , haven’t seen Mitchell or robbinsville but I would go out on a limb to say that this if East Surry goes East then the Bears in their down year can play with anyone that’s left. They have progressively gotten better every game.So as strange as it sounds if that was to happen there’s a chance the Bears and cards could be in a title game , that’s crazy but possible if the cards are pushed East. If they are west not even close

No you’re either 1aa runner up state championship game or western region depends on is East Surry goes East. Tarboro only team that’ll beat em.
