Riverheads should be 2A as well, people forget that part. Dominant team but manipulate the system. Can't hold that against the kids though.
How so? Just curious what you are basing this off of. Not saying you're not right just wondering what they do to manipulate the system.
Every time riverheads wins people start saying they cheat. They have no control over their division. Get over it folks
I don't know that Casto has that power... Administration yes, but I dont think Casto is the one reporting enrollment at 474ish every year
Not cheating, it's an enrollment loophole they execute very well. According to the Virginia state of education they have 532 students. They send special education and various vocational students off campus to another site. Therefore their daily average attendance stays hovering around 474. This was a behind the scenes move that was kept hush. Some of us with FAMILY on the Augusta Co school board KNOW what goes on. So now, who is crying because they couldn't compete at 2A? Crappy way of being the best 1A football team isn't it? No other school does that.
The kids line up and play regardless, they have no contol over that what they administration reports... The enrollment debate is unfortunate for the kids as they play their hearts out, but the administration reporting the estimated enrollment at 474 is no accident and in a way I'm glad as it gives augusta county a better chance to have a team in the finals each year. With that said Congrats to the big red on title #4 and I'm glad we had an augusta county team in the championship.
Like I said Keith, it's not on kids. They are a tough bunch! They just belong in 2A.

Always give the boys credit, every time.They won when they had to. Great season, great coaching. Administration is the problem. They are taking away something from other 1A schools. No class or integrity whatsoever.
Even though the administration has changed a couple times? Doesn't seem right. My graduating class had 109. Seems like 475 is about right
If there is any issue with the numbers I feel certain it has to do with the special education classes that are held at Riverheads. I'm not sure I believe any of it though. No matter, just know the kids play where they are told to play. Don't take anything from them.
Would have been nice to see them do it again at JMU and save us some driving time lol

It's not worth the time to explain how enrollment and state money works... a school system would NEVER cheat enrollment because it's thousands of dollars per kid the state give the jurisdiction.

When they become the smallest team in 2A and make a run to the top what are you going to cry about then.
Please guys just quit whining we will be back next year one class or the other,wherever they put us and play some hard nosed football,and see what happens.
It was just a few years back when an injury-riddled Gladiators squad lost a tight final four game in to an eventual state champion in 2A I believe. Could it just be coincidence that they hover near the enrollment line and happen to be at least pretty good Every.Single.Year.? Casto, Norcross, Wassick, and the rest of the crew do an incredible job. I'm here to talk football. If you know of someone doing some illegal crap please turn them in. These kids worked way too hard to have a bunch of (mostly) adults bash them on here. They showed up, put in the work, and won the games. If you know on something shady then make sure the school board and VHSL know. They'll take care of it.

There are 2 or 3 2A teams in the state that could maybe beat them and that would be about all,plus they would be the smallest 2A team.
Joke? Whats a joke is how RH ends up at 474 for 2yrs in a row. I will never think much of that program as long as they are at the 1A level. 500 kids competing against schools with 200-225-250? Twice as many? And you think thats impressive? Not to me.
