Penn State has out played them start to finish but just cannot get in the end zone. Barkley is a freak.

I know Lincoln. It sucks because I really like Riley, but I think we are just playing the string out at this point. I went to the Dark Side completely after today, lol. Hopefully it does not turn in to a total disaster for him and the team the rest of the year. He has upgraded the roster. I still think we are in better shape than we were under Bo in that aspect. I just don't see how he can get this team over .500. No way he survives that.

I like Riley too and I don't see any ending to this year that comes close to .500.

That said, I do believe he is deserved another year... no matter the end result of this year. Things are going to get bad. Ugly. One for the record books.... in a bad way. But, we atleast owe this coach a fair shot, with his own players and his own system in a 2nd year.

I think some of the frustration is incorrectly thrust on Riley, because the weak spot is the OL and Defense. You can't tell me that this team would seamlessly transition to the 3-4 without issues, when the entire unit was recruited for the 4-3. The O line is hot trash, so go ahead and fire away.

Bortomline, just let Riley get everything in place. Give the kids a year to work themselves into a new scheme that they probably have ZERO experience with in their lifetimes. Get a OL coach that knows what he is doing and can set aside his ego.

I'll post script this with the things that matter, but shouldn't mean squat. I'll begin with the fact that I love the idea of Frost on our sidelines and making everyone look foolish. I understand SO many variables are between start and end. If he is the REAL deal, and he certainly looks it, then I would hope he comes home.

But, I have an issue with what is done with Mike. If you toss him at the end of this year and you find yourself in Pedersons shoes... nobody wants in, God forbid SF won't touch us, then what? Where do we go? I don't want us to look back and ask, "what if we have Mike 1 more year?".

That was a really solid post overall. There is one more HUGE reason to give Riley another year: Fire him this quickly and what hot, new flavor-of-the-year coach is going to choose Nebraska over other worthy Power 5 teams looking for a new coach? You're in a no-win situation right now. You either fire the coach soon and start making plans for a true rebuild (a dangerous path to take) or stick with a mediocre situation, at best, hoping that Riley can at least get the team in shape to be competitive in the B10 West.

Who wants to risk their career on a Nebraska rebuild job when the previous coach got canned after the first signs of a truly bad team early in his third season? What's the benchmark for the new coach? How much time does he get to meet those goals? Can he trust a contract (better get a damn good buyout clause!)? What do you think of Nebraska's situation now versus when Pelini got fired (and everyone wanted him gone, too)? How is Riley compared to the previous two coaches at Nebraska? What is the trend in Nebraska's recent past when firing coaches and hiring replacements? Nebraska's in a scary bad situation.
