North Carolina losing to Davidson is the Big one, Arizona and Stanford were milder upsets, as was Miss. State losing to South Alabama.
Michigan losing to Fla. Gulf Coast, FSU losing to Tenn. Tech, Houston losing to Iowa were surprising as well. In the almost upset catagory, USM almost fell to UIC, and Xavier led Okla. 2-0, until the Sooners put a 7 spot up in the 7th. Even Radford had UofL nervous, hitting a GS homer, before finally losing by a final of 11-6.
Just goes to show you, no matter the sport, upsets happen and you better be focused on your opponent no matter who it might be.

What a bitter bitter loss for UNC to a small in state school. It would be like UK losing to WKU in the regional. Especially disconcerting since their All American pitching ace got pounded by the Davidson hitters.

I thought UNC was the best team in the tournament, so I'm very surprised to see that result. They have a long climb to get out of that regional, starting with a tough elimination game against Michigan today.

Actually it would be more like UK losing to NKU in the regional, this was Davidson's 1st ever NCAA appearance.

And they started their ace in the regional opener, they do have a high mountain to climb !

Only difference was that Stanford's loss was a Winner Bracket game so they aren't forced into winning 4 in a row like UNC and others.

Is it just me or did higher seed UNC get tougher 2 and 3 seeds than UK? Aren't Florida Gulf Coast and Michigan better than IU and NC State?

I have no idea, but on the surface I wouldn't think a small school from Florida and one of the northernmost Big Ten schools would be better than an ACC school that was preseason top 10 and an Indiana school that has been pretty good in recent years with solid tradition.

Florida Gulf Coast has a very good team and considering Michigan has a much better record than IU and is higher ranked, I think you would be wrong.

Fair enough, I know nothing of any of the teams, other than IU has better recent tradition than Michigan and that NC State is P5 school from a strong baseball conference (ACC).

Players couldn't concentrate on the game because they were worried about their upcoming African American final exam.
