Would anyone be watching CBI if WVU was not in it?

Upside: Extra practice for young team with a JC transfer, 3 Freshman and 1 Jr. in the Starting rotation. 1 sophomore, 2 Jr's. and 1 RS Fr. off the bench 1 Jr injured out for the season.

Downside: I can't really think of one downside, except nobody cares about this tournament. Fans probably wouldn't stream the games if not for WVU being in it.

If the coaching staff sees value in it that is all that matters. Next years team is probably going to be significantly different than what is on the floor right now.

Truthfully, I didn't even know it existed. So, I guess I wouldn't watch it at all.

Plenty of upside for all the reasons posted.

The only real downside is for the fans egos. These folks see the team as an extension of themselves and the perception of the team I guess in the eyes of some other fanbase contributes to their perception of themselves.

Honestly the same thing could really be said about the NIT.

Of course you don't pay to play in the NIT...but if your team isn't in it...why bother with it?

The Big Dance trumps everything else.

While it is good for teams to get more games and practices, I would like to see them do away with all three post-season tournaments.

In what sport, other than football, do you get rewarded with a tournament for 'not quite being good enough' for the main one?

My biggest fear was what kind of an ego blow would it have been to lose to GCU?

Being the only power 5 school in the CBI, I think we can all move past the lack of prestige the CBI has. Everyone gets it.

If we win it, then I hope it goes a long way toward teaching the team how to win next year.

As to your original question, I imagine many fans not watching because they can't find it on TV. As for WVU being in it, I agree with Huggs--it is good for a young team.

Only upside. There is no downside to extra game work.

True for sure about the work but the problem I had was the minor league perception this thing has attracted to it. Just look at who WVU is playing for goodness sakes. It looks like a boring November opponent.

But nobody sees the games except fans and local media. Have you seen any ESPN highlights? I haven't.

Not once. It’s just a weird tourny. It would be cool to have regional match ups like Penn St, WVU, Pitt, Duquense, Marshall and ND for example. If ND came to WVU and Penn St came to Pitt for example people may be into that. Have four regions and call it a day. 4 or 8 team regions changing year to year. Kinda like a post season tourny much like the a preseason tourny except an emphasis on brand programs and local connections. That would be my thought in a brainstorming session.

A team with 2 seniors played the eventual champion pretty tough in a sweet 16 contest last year. If that didn't carry over into this year, I doubt winning the CBI will.

I dont care what we do, nothing is as pathetic as having Shaka Smart as a head coach and watching him squander NBA talent every year. Not even if we lose in this tourney, will we be as pathetic as that program.... so if you're down on Huggs or WVU, just be thankful Shaka Smart isnt your coach.....
