so i use the internet for

lots of porn
catpaw and sports
streaming shows and movies while at work and should be working
and lots more porn

so honestly, if the internet just went away altogether i would probably become a much more productive person and employee.

and i am pretty sure the chinese hackers are already aware of the massive amounts of porn that have gone through my IP addresses.

I know. It sucks. Took a couple of years to get the wife to figure out that diving diagonally through South Carolina was not how I wanted to spend 2 or my 4 days off, either. They used to not even call it fall break. Should've kept it that way.

Non issue. This is basically over domain names. Who even thinks about typing in domain names...this thing called Google pretty much handles all that for you. Also the deathly fear that China and Iran, places that censor, will have ownership is laughable. The government is basically open to letting private entities run it...so less government control and less government spending...sounds like smaller government to me. And just like anything, with government involvement as of now..it's impeding further growth. If people didn't know this was happening they wouldn't even notice a change.

folks like op are your low information voters. Popping off about something they have no idea of. If we 'control' the Internet how do we allow China, North Korea or Iran to block our sites?

It's quite obvious the OP didn't even read his own link...or he simply just doesn't understand what he is reading. Maybe stick with 4th grade reading level issues.

Just another stupid black/white argument when the truth is grey. This is yet another step in the wrong direction if you have nationalistic views. A step in the right direction if you have worldly views.

You know who also wanted this? The entire tech sector of the UNITED STATES. Why would Google or Facebook want this if it's sooo bad for freedom? Because if the US doesn't privatize it it will be given to the UN. Where countries like Iran and China will have more power to stifle internet freedom.

Why are the people who think privatizing everything against this? Oh I know why. Because Obama is for it. This transition was agreed to nearly 20 years ago. And ICANN is an American company, based in L.A.
