Nebraska managed to avoid pulling a “Rutgers” to win the Frank Solich Bowl in the school's season-opening home tilt.

But as the Cornhuskers enter their fourth season under Matt Rhule, they didn’t appear much closer than Greg Schiano’s Rutgers program to even contending for a Big Ten title.

I hope they can keep building and get better, not to look ahead, but the games leading up to Mich State will be interesting. Defense has to get better as well as penalties.

This is not competitive football. This game accounted for 10-15% of Ohio's entire football revenue and there is some doubt whether it would even be worth winning the game, especially if other teams stop scheduling them. Their program will literally die on the vine without these games. Yes, I thought the defense adjusted after a bad start, yes the offense found a set of plays that worked against an overwhelmed defense. But is was a one score game in the 4th quarter, in a game that was not designed in anyway to be competitive.

Dumb article. One team is 1-0 and the other is 0-1. Neither team was expected preseason to challenge for the Big-10 title anyways. Not all Big-10 teams looked great in their openers (Oregon-Boise St game was closer than expected and definitely Michigan was helped in the win over Western Michigan).

It sure wasn’t a perfect game, but it does feel like the media has a slight agenda. This site’s game article title of “sloppy uncomfortable blow out win” also felt that way and not exactly accurate. Maybe it’s all the years of expecting the worst, but the team came out in the second half and controlled the rest of the game.

The blame is on the consumers. Consumers want to see and hear what they believe. This is baseline of all media decisions, and headlines need to be emotional and judgmental to get clicks. Nebraska wins 49-21 is a dead headline. Media will not write stuff that people ignore, so people decide what they want and the media follows.

I am as anti-rhule as it gets but I thought the HO headline was ********. We won by 28 and met the betting line. Whether Ohio gave up, or wore out, or we ran up the score doesn't matter. That has to be calculated in when setting expectations in a game. Everybody expects a team with 10% the resources to eventually get beat...whether out of exhaustion, on purpose, or cheating. But following 3 blowout losses, a bad transfer portal, losing our preferred qb, and overpaying for a backup option it seems most people are down on the program. Throw in the ******* at AD and the scammer at head coach and the vibe is skewed negative. This team will have to earn a flip in fan sentiment, as it should be.

A better article would be... "another ******** non-competitive game ended in a blowout for a power conference team just paying for wins".
