After the game we stopped and got the family some frozen yogurt. Was told by a USC student working there that the school encourages basketball game attendance by awarding students points by going to basketball games, and the points can be used the next year to help them get football tickets.
That is just sad!

As long as you never claim to have any kind of respectable fan support for basketball, its a pretty good idea.

And even then this was only their 6th sell out in forever, maybe ever if I heard the announcers correctly. And it sounded and looked like a third of the crowd were UK fans.

A lot of schools reward students for going to other lesser sports such as soccer, volleyball, women's basketball etc... In order to get better tickets for that schools premier sport, I think it's a fine idea and a good way to increase attendance in sports that recieve lesser notoriety and accolades

Ever heard of the K-Fund. UK encourages season ticket holders in FB and BB to buy season tickets to other sports to increase their points to get better BB or FB seats.

It's good marketing.

Cat fan since forever here, from Ky. and living in South Carolina. USC has some of the most loyal and delusional football fans you will find anywhere. To my surprise those who follow basketball are overwhelmingly Duke fans and they detest Kentucky. They don't see anything strange about failing to support USC. In spite of UK's lack of football success, I would not dream of supporting another team. Many of the season ticket holders use their tickets in football season and sell the basketball tickets to people like me. That is why you see so much blue in the Colonial Life Center, a great facility by the way, but can't compare to Rupp and it's ambiance. There were fans there today from Ga., Tenn., Fla., N.C., Ky. and I am sure other states as well. I am loving this season and this win means I will catch no grief Monday at work!

And that makes some sense, EXCECT men's basketball is not like volleyball or soccer or other "lesser sports".
Just like it would be sad if UK did this to get students to attend UK football games (by awarding better basketball tickets). Those are the 2 sports that shouldn't need any incentives for student attendance.

Technically it was a sellout, signs at the entrance said game sold out. But there were lots of empty seats. Was told some students go, get there credit for going to the game & then leave.

And UK fans made up at least 40%, I'd say closer to 50% of the crowd. If you exclude the student section, we were way more than half.
