Win or lose, this is terrible business for the university. You would think that any stadium construction project that would displace 200 "Lifetime" Gamecock Club members would have been approached delicately and in at least some consultation with said members, but it doesn't sound like that was the approach at all. It sure feels like a bad time to be pissing off such a large group of your most loyal fans.

A lot of these people simply make profit off these seats. Lets be honest about who actually attends vs who owns the tickets. Change happens, things mature, it's life.
It doesn't matter who sits in the seats. The university made a deal with those ticket buyers/donors that was supposed to be for life. $100,000 in 1990 was a substantial sum. Now, the university wants to renege on the deal. The fact the university is doing this would make me never trust anything they said.

This is a terrible look for the university. It sends a message that the university has no integrity when it comes to honoring contracts.

Why spend all of that money and time just to watch C R A P on the football field?

They don’t care! They’ll make far more money from a new corporate sponsor than any lifetime fan who bought a term life policy for $100k

USC should have had the foresight to hire a hitman back in 1990 when $100,000 would buy more than a used Hyundai or two dozen eggs and they would also have the bonus of avoiding this situation.
Someone should lose their job for their obvious short-sightedness.

I suspect that every school that does renovations which reduce capacity experiences similar outrage. I suppose that this will entail the transfer of higher donors to different seats and lower donors to the pavement.

Another reason to give Ray Tanner all the credit for this. Ray was an outstanding baseball coach but as an AD he was absolutely horrible. Ray Tanner does not care he still makes around $800,000 a year as a consultant and he will sit in one of those luxury boxes wining and dining at the expense of the people who bought season tickets.

As I recall, in 1990, and for many years around that time, there were billboards in Columbia advertising tickets so getting a $100,000 donation in any form AND selling some season tickets was a big deal.

Also, a part of this story being overlooked is that the ticketholder says the tickets have been in his family for 60 years. This is not a thing that started in 1990.

This is a very bad look for the university in my opinion. It leads me to believe that you cannot trust any contract or ticket purchase agreement the university gives you.

Not disagreeing, but the joke was that they could have collected the 100 grand when it was actually worth something and he wouldn't be here today to be protesting the matter. A double win for USC.

Now, do I find them morally bankrupt in the matter? Yes, as I do most entities that worship at the altar of mammon; this just another example of it.
They try to mke you think you're part of a "family" when all you're part of is their accounting ledger.

I earned a degree there many years ago (after paying a lot of money for the opportunity); I didn't sign over my soul to have it conferred upon me and therefore owe them nothing.

Don’t worry if the football team doesn’t do better, you’ll be able to buy the suites for pennies on the dollar

If we are last in suites in SEC, Oklahoma can’t be too far behind. I didn’t see many on TV last night.

How about expand the press box the length of the stadium then put new suites on each side of the press box. Build a mirror box on the other side and put more suites in that one.

From what I understand the University refused to even have a meeting with Life Time members which was requested numerous times
going back some 10 weeks.

There is a total lack of Transparency.
