The Hawkeyes (14-5, 4-4) took down Rutgers its last time out, which was over a week ago (Jan. 20). The Trojans (15-5, 4-5) narrowly defeated Wisconsin on Sunday.

USC can score the basketball, but with that, they concede success to opponents on the offensive end. USC is a string rebounding team, likely due to to their very low shooting percentage.

I expect a lively crowd tonight and the Hawkeyes have e a little more juice left in the end to squeeze out a 77-67 victory.

Not sure how they have Iowa as 10 pt favorite after USC went into kohl center and beat badgers Sunday.
USC is loaded...almost too many good players.
Iowa 74 USC 72.
Go hawks!

The Hawks Nest needs to sing happy Birthday to 6'7 senior CITIZEN guard Chad Baker-Mazara. He turned 26 yesterday (Jan 27).

He's averaging 19.2 pts on 45% shooting for the season (37% from three). Against Wisconsin, he scored 29 points & was 5-11 (46%) from 3; the rest of his team was 1-13 (8%).

Neither team shot well; 34% for Wisconsin; 41% for USC.

Damn. Wisconsin shot 37 3 pointers in the game. If you assume they had the ball half the time that’s over 1.2 3 pointers attempted a minute. Wow. I know they shoot 3s but for them that seems like a bunch.

Should we sag off of Arenas & Woods and let them shoot all night long? Both are shooting just 22% from the field on the season.

USC expected starters:

6'9" F Ezra Ausar.... ....16.2 pts,...6.0 rebs,.. .61% FG
6'10" F Jacob Cofie... .....9.9 pts,...7.3 rebs,.. .55% FG
6'6" G Alijah Arenas..... ...7.5 pts,...3.5 rebs,. ..22% FG
6'2" G
Kam Woods.... ....3.1 pts,...3.8 rebs,. ..22% FG
6'7" G
Chad Baker-Mazara........19.2 pts,...4.4. rebs,...45% FG

IMHO Iowa will win if Chad Baker-Mazara is held in check. If he goes off it will be tough to win IMO.

I think that was a patented Fran strategy, often resulting in otherwise poor shooters raining 3's.

Sample size is small. They’ve played only 8 games and 2 games respectively, so I’d be shocked if those numbers don’t significantly improve as the season progresses.

Arenas is dangerous..only 3rd game back.
If he gets in a flow shooting-wise,look out...he is a top ten recruit and reminds me of his dad, gilbert.

Eric Musselman is irritating. That alone is enough incentive to pummel them.
Dude never looks anything but really constipated on the sidelines.

That or when he gets mad, then it looks like he went to a specialist for help pooping and they had no answers for him.

Last time USC played in IC they played at the Field House because Carver was not ready.

Michael Payne (IA) and Gerry Wright (USC) were thrown out of the game fir going at it. Wright transferred to Iowa the next year. Iowa was ranked 7th.

Bobby Hansen required stitches at half time for his involvement in the teams scuffle.
