Is there any superstar players that decided to play for someone else and not us

Probably. There was a little US born Italian kid named Rossi who was supposed to be awesome and he chose to play for Italy. No clue if he actually played for them, or became as good as he was supposed to be. I just remember Americans making a big deal about it.

Freddy Adu was supposed to be the next Pele or something lol.

But man we have some players. Those boys yesterday were foreign and could play. Fun to watch.

Man, Juergen really sucked didn't he? Commentator said it best - "Juergen was an idealist, and Arena is a realist".

Never seen a team dominate Germany like Chile has - and then in the blink of an eye Germany takes a 1-0 lead.

Very exciting thus far

I'm no expert but it seems that both teams seem to be playing at a much higher level than we do. The passing accuracy is insane

Just saw that it is now a done deal that Alexandre Lacazette is now a Gunner!. Weird Arsenal are so active so early. The signed IMO one of the best LB prospects in the Bundesliga in Sead Kolasinac, just signed Lacazette who has score over 110 goals the last 4 seasons and stand very good chance to also sign Riyad Mahrez. If you keep Sanchez thats a very strong and formidable team. Just wonder if they stay with 3-4-3 formation or go back to 4-2-3-1. My guess is they would move back to 4-2-3-1 like so:

Cech
Belerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Kolasinac/Monreal
Xhaka, Ramsey
Alexis, Ozil, Mahrez
Lacazette

With a deep bench with Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud, Onyekuru, Santi Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ospina, Holding

If Arsenal Sold Sanchez, they likely would be able to sell for such a fee that could possibly fund a deal to bring in Kylian Mbappe....

So besides the score what do I need to be watching the most in the gold cup? Are there any new players or any spots up for grab if someone plays well?

And Acosta needs as much Pt as possible. Style wise he really reminds me of David Alaba.... guys who are versatile enough to be in the back line and CDM and are great at taking free kicks

He's great. I hope he makes a move to Europe after the World Cup. He will want to play as much as possible between now and next summer but I think he's poised to make the move and build himself to a team leader for 2022.

Woah. That's a big deal... He''ll be outstanding playing for a team that will dominate possession like they do.

Makes me feel even better of the value Arsenal got: For Comparisons Sake:

Alexandre Lacazette (50 million)
2016-2017 - 37 Goals
2015-2016 - 26 goals
2014-2015 - 31 Goals
2013-104 - 22 Goals

Total: 116

5 Years UCL Experience with 19 Goals in 40aps

Romelu Lukaku (75 Million)
2016-2017 - 26 Goals
2015-2016 - 25 goals
2014-2015 - 20 Goals
2013-104 - 16 Goals

Total: 87 Goals

Zero UCL Experience

Yeah... doing it in France for the # 2/3 team isn't quite the same thing as doing it for a middling premier league team like Everton. I'd take lukaku every day of
The week over AL. Of course money is no
Object for Mu. Lukaku is basically the exact style player Manchester needed. Lacazette is a fine signing, no doubt. If arsenal can keep Sanchez that will be an awfully fast pair. (Sanchez will move back outside).

I like Lukaku, but something is just off with him sometimes for me. He goes through disinterested spells and IMO leaves some to be desired technically. Now he's a tank physically but when he doesn't have that space to run in behind and has to operate in tight spaces is when you see him struggle due to his lack of technical ability. Will be interesting to see how he does.

Great atmosphere. Pretty uninspired performance.

The roster bruce put together has flaws. (As Jt should, no point in bringing in our "a" team for this. Saef getting hurt really limits us. We need another winger worth a damn. And this experiment with corona at the 10 better not last much longer. We need to go 4-4-2 and just stick with it. We will be lucky to make it to the finals. But I suspect we bring in bradley, altidore, nagbe and our other top mls guys. Oh yeah, graham zusi sucks.
Give lichaj a shot

The problem against Panama can be traced back to literally 1 guy Omar Gonzales. He played EXTREMELY disjointed from his back line. And it had a chain reaction like effect to the rest of the team. There was absolutely no talking.....He often times was stepping up when everyone was staying back and vice versa. He continually dropped deep. What then happened was that Dax McCarty and Acosta dropped wayyy deep too which created a massive void of space that had Corono covering sideline to sideline and an area of about 40 yards. When your CAM is dropping that deep he cannot provide the outlet or the creative spark a CAM is supposed to.

Omar Gonzales REALLY hurt himself in that game. Matt Hedges did a far superior job organizing that back line against Ghana which pushed Acosta and Dax further up and cut down on the space and time available in the middle of the pitch and allowed Corona and Dax to do what they do best which is creatively pass between the lines.

I am also halfway convinced we are cursed to not beating Panama after in 2014 WCQ we scored a completely unneeded goal that robbed Panama of their 1st ever world cup (technically a playoff game) and sent Mexico through.

Here is how I HOPE we line up tonight:

Guzan
Villafana- Hedges- Miazga - Zusi
Acosta - Dax McCarty
Zardes - Corona - Bedoya
Dwyer

Guzan, Zusi, McCarty and to a lesser degree Bedoya, do nothing for me. They are not the future. If we don't bring our A team then this should be a development tournament for up and comers. Fine players but not the future.

Are you not gonna credit TTS's breakdown of the game? It's basically exactly what you said. LOL...

In allseriousness...

I agree, to an extent. I think our issues started with McCartey and Accosta playing way too deep. If you go back and watch the mexico game, when we were bunkered our midfield and wings still pressed at the halfway line. Bradley told midfield guys throughout the game to step and press. Cameron ran the backline like an army line...

Against Panama there was nobody telling guys in the midfield to step. And certainly nobody on the back-line telling people to step.

I think we need Hedges starting and I'd love to see Miazga. I bet we see lichaj instead of zusi. Graham Zusi can play right back in MLS. he can't play it on the international level.

I'm still pissed that Zusi scored that goal. We should have called off the dogs and let panama have that one. How glorious would it have been for mexico to not qualify for the wc.

Agree, though our top young goal keeper isn't available for this tournament. So If Guzan is going to be the #2 in Russia and Horvath the 3 then I think you have to give Guzan minutes. Especially since he hasn't played a ton lately...

We need to see arriola in for Bedoya, Hedges in for Gonzalez and Miazga in for and beisler.
We also have to give Lichaj run at RB just to see if he can be the backup in russia. Though I suspect if Timmy Chandler continues to play well he will get a shot to be the backup at both leftback and right back in russia..

McCarty needs to play because he probably gets a trip to Russia as the emergency backup for bradley. WE really don't have anybody besides him to backup bradley. Accost could, I guess, but he's not a true #6. Geoff Cameron could play there too...

We are as deep as we have ever been right now with the exception of striker. I'm a bit worried about what we have coming up (or lack thereof) at striker. Sargent is basically it. Morris isn't going to be a first team Striker, Demsey is about to be retired... Dwyer probably gets a trip to russia along with Dempsey along with Wood and Altidore... Josh Sargent better be as good as we hope... (he wont' go to russia but we need him for the next cycle bad...)

They said the same thing yes. But its dead on. Its weird because you think Omar would have taken much more of that responsibility but he didnt.

As for striker/forward spots, there are a couple of canadians I would die to have right now. Cyle Larin would do wonders for us and the youngster Alphonso Davies who leads the golden boot race with 3 goals in the Gold Cup so far.

Also, what happened to guys like Aron Johannsson, Julian Green, and Terrence Boyd? Maybe even call in guys like Andrew Wooten. We gotta find some depth somewhere.

Omar never takes responsibility. He never has. The TSS guys have acknowledged that before. It's why he has never really caught on. He's a right center back. The other two options for him to play with are beisler and brooks, neither very outspoken leaders. He's not going to play with cameron or hedges because klinsmann and now arena are firm believers in have "correct footed" center-backs. It's why he really doesn't have a spot in my opinion. Against decent competition I think we have to play hedges or cameron as they are the best at leading and organizing the back line.

In terms of your options at striker.

Larin would be a nice option, but he's not much different than dwyer... I hope davies can continue to improve for canada. IT would be nice to have another good team in concacaf.

Boyd ravaged his knee and likely will never be back in the fold. Green isn't a striker, never has been and Johannsson has battled injuries and is having trouble getting regular playing time.

Haji Wright is a guy who has promise. he may get first team minutes this year for schalke...

I like zardes. He always seems to make something happen when he's in.

You're right. His first touch is embarrassing and he looks awkward a lot of the time. But he always seems to make something happen. He's made some key plays in several big games since the last world cup. I would't be surprised to see him and arriola start on the wings tonight.

When you can't handle Martiniques high press, you got issues lol.... embarrassing display. Screw this man. Bring the first team in.

We have the illusion of depth. I see zero quality outside of Acosta.
