Honestly our players should get hazard pay playing in CONCACAF.
I wish I made this up, but they were talking about one Salvador player, and the announcer said "this is his first appearance in a Gold Cup since a 2017 game against the United States, a night in which he bit Jozy Altadore amongst other issues."

Wild first half with penalty kicks and the U.S. goal.... Plenty of ops for the USA need to finish a few.

Really surprised/disappointed that Diego Luna didn’t get the call. I don’t get it.
I love that Landon called this out tonight too. I’m still perplexed at how he didn’t get selected last summer…but thankfully it all worked out. I’d die a bit inside if he were doing this for Mexico this summer since it was always apparent to me that he’d be a difference maker some day.

For me, Luna showed his quality when he played in the U-20 World Cup. This is the type of player I envisioned him to be back then and I’m glad to see it.

What I do not understand is why Tyler Adams was pulled off the pitch defending a lead and someone like McGlynn (not known for his defensive effort) was inserted into the game during the same substitution window. On X it’s reported that Adams had some hamstring discomfort earlier in the week, but at least put some guys on who are known for defensively putting in the effort.

Yea, the u20 was what got me on his bandwagon too. Effort at both ends, creativity, great control and first touch, grit. He would have improved that u23 squad last summer, and we gave him a reason to take a serious look at Mexico. As much as everyone staying home/being injured sucked this summer, it did really allow Luna and Tillman to raise their stock and force their way onto an “A” squad.

As far as substitutions go, tonight showed me what Poch really thinks of Johnny. Trying to protect a lead and take off both of our defensive mids, and he still doesn’t see the field. Shocking the way he’s perceived by our staff vs those in Spain.

Really disappointed at the turnout tonight in St Louis. How the F is the environment that hostile? I don’t even want to see what the crowd looks like on Sunday in Houston…it’s gonna be sad as a US fan.

I attended the game with the family. Walking up around 5ish I didn’t notice anything out of the ordinary with seeing a mix of US and Guatemala jerseys, but my goodness that stadium was at least 75-80% Guatemala fans. It was as if the game were in Guatemala City.

Luna is a very hard guy to root against for sure. He just seems to make plays no matter the team or jersey he is wearing.

This will be an unpopular take, but he plays a similar game to a young Messi. Energy when he needs it, not adverse to taking a risk and always thinking about taking a shot.

He is built low to the ground and has exceptional control of the ball when it is under his feet. He also sees spaces that can be filled to place pressure on the defense.

He is growing in stature and always plays hard. He has a lot of upside going into team selection.

Let’s hope Pooch opts for the ugly duckling over some gazelle that looks great running but is tentative and can’t do two things at once…….. dribble and see space.

He should be starting when the next camp convenes. He is gaining confidence and taking advantage of opportunities.

But, there will be energy in the stadium which will be excellent For everyone viewing as well as the players on the pitch. Make the US side play in front of a ton of noise yet again.

His switch of field setup his own first goal too IIRC. Great vision and is everywhere on the pitch. He staked a claim for next summer for sure. Tillman continues to impress as well. As far as him starting next year, not sure that occurs to be honest but who knows how healthy that roster will be.

My other takeaway from this tournament...how the hell is Rubio Rubin playing in the USL? No one in Liga MX or the MLS could use him?

Sounds like Johnny Cardoso does have a few injuries (picked up a new minor ankle injury after being sick), so that likely explains his lack of play (was just such an obvious spot for him last night, so finally makes a bit more sense).

Hopefully my Outlaws membership doesn’t get revoked, but I’ve got several plays on Mexico tonight. Mexico to win the cup at -135 is a really good price. Rooting hard that my $ goes down in flames!
